Oh boy. Imagine the uproar over this news. "Harley sold out!"

I could care less and have even said in the past that they could easily design water cooling into the engine without detracting from the classic look.

all they have to do is walk across the street to a dealer and look at a gsx650f, vstrom, sv650, sv1000 , tlr, 990 , vmax, or the other thousand or so bikes that do it well.

So I'm shopping for proper riding pants. Riding to do so, wearing a textile ADVish jacket and a FF helmet.

I go to the Hondamaha shop and the owner of the shop greets me, says "I don't know clothing" but quickly calls over a guy from the parts counter. They don't have any in stock, but coming soon.

Move on to the Kawazuki shop. Nice guys, busy at the moment. Clothing on the back wall. They have some stock, but not my size.

On to the HD Garage Mahal. Substantial flooring given over to clothing and accessories. The front counter just inside the door greets me, asks me what I'm looking for, and a clothing specialist guides me right to some appropriate gear, NOT assless chaps and NOT from the Clothing Company. She hangs out, demonstrates the features, and picks my right size the first time.

I think she's making the sale.

But carry on with YOUR narrative...

I could care less Yet apparently care enough to comment.... "Harley sold out!" and have even said in the past that they could easily design water cooling into the engine without detracting from the classic look.

Harley Davidson soldiers on selling motorcycles that people want to buy... Oh, the humanity!

No, but the windshield blocks the air, which I really don't like. I've got a really short windshield on right now, and I still don't like it. Also the fairings make the bike more difficult to service. Not seeing any positives here...

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it. I tried it, and I can honestly say I don't like faired bikes.

The only time I've ever really enjoyed riding my Connie was on the way to get the billet steel fairing stay mount welded on after the shit-tier (typical) Kawasaki tack-welded thin plate one broke off.

My next bike will be naked.

I like feeling the elements. If I need protection from them, I gear up.

I thought we were talking about water cooling vs aesthetics?

Okay--water-jacketed blocks are ugly to some people, which is why they are covered in plastic or have fake fins bolted on. Personally I think naked bandits and SV-Ns look great. So do streetfighters.

The only cosmetic covers my xlh had were one over the fusebox (a little triangle beneath the seat on the left side) and chrome covers over the fender struts.. Everything else had a function.

Out of the bikes you mentioned I bet HD sells more of a specific model (IE the Nightster) than the sum total of all those bikes in a year. 650f--discontinued with lots of leftovers, same with the VStrom, TL-R, and SVs. The current Vmaxes aren't leftovers because they are only imported when they are ordered AFAIK and I personally haven't even seen one on the road yet.
