I went to the last pie run and there were several KLR's and a couple of BMW 650s.

I wont make this one, Friday I will finish off my 3K mile trip on my Dakar. One thing for sure is that for a road bike my GT is much better "LOL"

There are all sorts of bikes at these pie runs and Hico was the first one so it gets a lot of attendance. Should be a good turnout with the weather being so nice. I'm glad it won't be hot like today...gonna hit freaking 90 degrees in Austin. It's still February. I'm having flashbacks to last year's eternal summer already.

Thanks! I don't have any pics of my bike uploaded yet, so had to grab a pic from the web for my avatar... And since I have "the bars" tattooed on my arm and stenciled over the dealer info on my bike's license frame, I figured that would be a good choice!

Sounds good to me. After 7 years of strictly on road I'm still learnin my way around an adventure bike, so I may not be up for as much of the gnarly stuff as some of the guys on here but ive been down dirt and gravel roads every chance I get and would enjoy learning from you guys with experience. When you're this way, just let me know.

moved here to TX in August, sold my GS and picked up a wr250r from a guy in AZ, went to get plates for the bike and the lady told me i need to get the bike inspected first, so question is, can i go to anyplace that does state inspections or are there motorcycle specific places? i live about 10 mins north of downtown up the 75. I see tons of shops advertising state inspection and i recently took my CT plated car to one really close to where i live so i guess ill try them in the morning, but figured id ask some one on here anyways.

oh, and hey everyone, i do plan to stay in tx for a while, will be nice to meet up with some of you and do some dirt riding :)

You can go anywhere. You'll need what they call a identification certificate (form VI-30) that verifies the VIN since it's from out of state.

Here in Texas motorcycles only get a safety inspection from any state inspector - the car ones are just fine. The required form shouldn't cost any more (mine didn't), but you need to tell them you need the form or you won't get it. YOU MUST HAVE PROOF OF INSURANCE TO GET AN INSPECTION HERE. I bought a WRR in CO this last fall and did this last December.

Also, there is a Facebook page/group for DFW DS riders. Don't know how to link to that.

Lastly, Arkansas is a great place to go riding your WRR from the DFW area. Good roads and trails, friendly people, cheap food and lodging.

Jiffylube...etc, wherever they have the inspection signs. Don't let some kid tell you that he "needs to ride it to check the brakes", that's BS. At the very least they might ask you to demonstrate that they work. In TX, trailers use the same sticker as motorcycles.

At the inspection place. They'll know what you're looking for.

well got the inspection done, but looks like u have to go to a motorcycle shop to do it. i went to two different places and they wouldnt do it, the second place told me to go to a motorcycle shop to get it done. so ended up getting it done at a Vespa place. glad it was only 15 bucks, but sad to hear you have to do this every year.

Any inspection place can do it. Why they wouldn't, IDK, unless they make more money selling wiper blades to cagers and they can't sell squat to bikers?

Just another reason NOT to live in the big D.

I'm actually fixing to start this registration process too. 2 cars and 3 moto's. The wife is going to get her car inspected tomorrow and get the lay of the land for the rest of out gas guzzling toys. Hopefully she'll be able to handle the inspection process and registration for all of our modes of transportation and I will only have to go and get a drivers license. She doesn't work, so standing in line shouldn't be a big deal.
