Don't get me wrong -- I'm not BMW-bashing, nor do I expect the new waterhead to have major quality issues. However, while the new bike may be an evolution of the concept, it will likely be almost entirely new from a part number perspective. The fact that the engine is water-cooled and the FD is on the opposite side are two significant new design changes. Also look at the S1000RR crankshaft recall (though admittedly not a first-year issue). My point is simply that, while BMW puts out a quality product, they are not immune to first-year issues.

Also in BMW's defense, sort of, the problems with my '99 build 2000 1150GS weren't related to the new model. I had the perfect trifecta of a transmission input shaft failure, final drive failure and now it sits in my garage with ABS hydro unit failure. At least the ABS unit doesn't disable the bike and to be fair I did not change the brake fluid 12 times like the maintenance schedule calls for.

Wet Head Delayed

I was talking to the salesman at the local dealer about water cooled boxer.
He said that it will not be released until 2014. BMW will run another year of air cooled Boxers for 2013.

My dealer said they'd be here for 2012.
Only a small cred increase over a salesman, though.

Intermot is in October.

The staff at Niederslassung Stuttgart seem to think the new motor will be released then.

But I'm sure a BMW salesman in SoCal has more insight than the staff of a BMW-owned store.

A lot of the information on topics like this is speculation, I just asked someone who would have a pretty good idea since he needs the information and most likely has a direct line to it.

Sorry I didn't read the previous 129 pages to get the answer I was looking for.

For the guy with A.D.D. just read the topic line again.
If you also can't remember where the key goes on your bike , I'm sure one of your friends can help you remember.

The press release followed immediately by the various country's release will be in this coming March in Marrakesh, Morocco. Dealers will be receiving bikes coinciding with the dealers and press hands on intros.

The world wide unveiling will either be at EICMA or Intermot this fall.

Forgot to add, mine is officially on order from San Jose BMW for a fantastic Fly and Ride. Not the Adventure model and hopefully a first batch model. Expect to pick it up sometime in the March-April time frame. Break in ride on the fantastic roads of Northern California roads, initial service back at San Jose and then a great cross country to our new home in the Smokey Mountains.

The grand adventure continues.
