WaterHeads likely. Although if they have even one major cooling problem early on they might as well be called WasserBombs.

R1200GS New Water Boxer Engine Specs
Here is a link to the Pelican Forum discussing the new water boxer based on an article from BMW MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/bmw-r...ct-design.html This is a quote from the member "Dr Curve" about the new GS. Sounds promising!! "I forgot to mention that the first model year to be offered will be a 2013 GS and they have released the basic figures for it to be 125 HP at 7500 RPMs with 90 foot pounds of torque at 5500rpms. It has a three bearing crank shaft and (at least to me in looking at the pictures for a hour) four radially arranged valves per cylinder (I thought non radial at first, but now think they are like the HP2S). They are saying this first model will have a 100/75mm bore and stroke, 1178cc's, drive by wire throttle control, shaft drive on the left, single center 10mm plug, with 39-mm intake and 33-mm exhaust valves. Get ready guys.........these are going to be fun and some of us are already talking to dealers about the "first ones." |

read that same article yesterday and was excited as well. I kinda wish they were producing a bit more horse power maybe closer to the multistrata numbers. I also thought the article said it could be a 2012 or probably a 2013 model year. Just splitting hairs i guess.

Here are my whines...it doesn't resemble the old oilhead closely engough, it looks like it will be pretty noisy at cold start (whole engine is cast in 2 pieces), it will be too expensive and made in China? Oh no! All I wanna know is.....what kind of oil does it use, synthetic or non-synthetic? |

Since it's water cooled, I think it will pull to the right.

still burning oil in 2013?
Will this "new'' design also require 20,000 break in & then maybe it will STOP using oil?
There was an out cry about the KLR650 08 using oil & no one really cares about something that cost 3 & 4 times (BMW) as much burning the same amount of oil for 20,000 miles. NO, I will not sell my GS. I like deseil motorcycles from Germany. |
