FNG here...1st post on this great site.
Anyway, Yesterday I rode my DL100 down to the local dealer. I hopped on a new 2013 WC and was thoroughly impressed.

A friend has a 2011 GSA, so I was expecting a same, but different feel to the motor. Uhh, no! The throttle response and clutch are wayyy different and better on the WC in my opinion.

I was so impressed that I pulled the trigger on one of the 7 they have in stock. I've been looking for a replacement for the Vstrom for awhile anyway. The only thing I may miss on that bike is the simplicity.

I'm 5'9, 32" inseam. This bike feels like it was made for me.

I have one question for those in the know. The bike I selected does not have the LED headlight. There is another one in stock, same equipment, except it has the LED lighting and a stainless exhaust (vs chrome on the other). $800 seams like a lot for a light.

Any thoughts, comments or suggestions?

Great site, I lurked a lot when I had the Strom.

If it is one of the standard packages it also include the tire pressure monitor. As for worth... that's up to you. I don't ride enough in the dark to care. When I do get stuck riding at night I slow down. Changing a bulb once a year doesn't upset me all that much, either. On the other hand I've already ordered a light bar so I can mount my fog lights for daylight conspicuity.

What's important to you?

I just want to see the road at night very well. I ride home in the dark quite often. The deer here are numerous, but small. An impact, even a small one, will ruin your ride though.

The lights on my Vstrom are among the best I've ever had. I would like to have at least that same degree of output from the Halogen unit on the GS. If the LED is light years ahead, it would be worth the bump to me. If not, I'll just get some axillary driving lights.

TPMS matters not to me.

Go for the LED.
1) People verified it is way better.

2) It's not just the light. One has an extras package that the other doesn't.

3) LED is becoming something like the trademark of the new LC GS. I see people in a few months (non GS people) to say "ah this is not the new one, the new one has the LED".

4) No LED WILL (I will sign for this) affect resale value. If you care.

On the other hand. LED is an "unknown" right now. We don't know the real longevity of it (supposedly it's huge).

Rode with a couple friends, one with the new LED and the other with the old school halogen. The LED is light years ahead. Throws off a brilliant white beam both wide and far. You'll have no regrets if you buy it.

I have it with LED and is a great upgrade, old halogen wasn't enough. At Mexico nobody wants the halogen version, dealers are having problems to sell those bike that they already have in stock, them discount 1,200 usd from the tag price.

Turn signal cancel color?

Anyone know what the turn signal cancel wire color code is on the GSW? My assumption would be it is the same BLSW as on the previous bike but I'm not positive.

Yes but I was told it was unlikely to be a balance issue. Not sure I agree with that because the weights must be trying to correct some issue? Maybe I should go to a tyre specialist.

Looking at the whole setup if I get really desperate to have them down the line I wonder if it will be possible to swap out the unit for the LEDs. I bet it is pretty modular.

Plus, all I think you get ith the LED is TPS also...pretty sure..and I HAVE heard of issues with the TPS...dang you BMW for not making this something you can just get on your own

1. True. Yet it will also resell EASIER with them. (dealers already discount NEW ones without them) Also the price difference is not just the lights.

2. True. Many other things also. Like water cooling. Or ASC, or ESA, or ABS... So? (or we can take this further and say that most riders are perfectly fine without a GS)

3. Not really the same. At all.

4. So if something is already good (which btw is NOT true for non-LC GS... standard lights are far from being the best in category), you are not allowed to make it better?

OK I understand we all want to make "excuses" for our choices, but sometimes we just have to say simple things like "well it's nice but I can't pay for that", "well it's nice but I want other things more", or "well it's nice but I already did the other thing and I have to like it" (I don't say any of the above fits you).
For example in my case the whole LC thing is fantastic (both on paper and on the tests I did), but I just can't pay for it now. So I say "my 2007 is fine AND I might be able to get that version "1.5" LC after all the beta testing is done". Yet, I know perfectly fine that this is just my excuse.

The LEDs are worth waiting for. Best lights I have had on a bike by far.
Don't bet you can just swap in the LEDs down the track got caught with my latest car. Needs rewriting harness for xenon lights, basically too expensive to even consider. I am told.

tie in for accessories

Okay, I'm sure this has been covered, but I can't find it. I'm adding a fuse block under the seat for my accessories (air horn, lights. etc) and am trying to find a good wire to tie into that's hot when the bike is on. I tried the green wire off of the GPS power because it is hot when on, but that isn't working for some reason. I know my relay is good because I hooked it up straight to the battery through a switch and it's fine. Where have you guys tapped into for your switched accessories?

My fuse block is going at the very tail end of the bike. The closest switched power source I found back there was a wire coming out of what I later realized was the TPM module. I am pretty sure I don't want to tap into that so I need to find something else.

I would want to use the diagnostic plug next to the battery but I am unsure of which wire I need to use (haven't tried testing them yet). At a glance, the wire colors are different from previous years as I don't recall seeing the Blue/Green wire that most use to tap into. My Skene P3 lights need to tap into this wire and I would not be able to hook anything else up to it, so I still need to find another switched power source.
