FYI: K bikes are called whiners due to the sound made by the fuel pump.

Sewing Machines!
Quote:
I had an '86 CX 650 Turbo -- liquid cooled, shaft drv, yadda-yadda, and,.....fuel injected. With the Guzzi-esq heads sticking out for all the world to see, and the throttle bodies right beside both knees, that thing made more noises than a spring-time bird feeder. At idle, it sounded like the squeaky treadle on an old Singer sewing machine -- thank god for that turbo!

Bright enough to know that K bike fuel pumps, not drive shafts, whine.
Psst: Jokes are better when they have at least a fleeting relation to reality.

Output shaft ... inside motor ... angle of the helical cut ... that's why you can hear a K coming from half a block away .... or did you think that the noise gets louder because the fuel pump is somehow gear driven and increases with rev's ? . .

I've owned about 20 different K bikes. I own six of them at the moment. I've built a few "from scratch" too. NONE of them have whined other than from the fuel pump. But, hey, WTF would I know about K bikes?

Until I owned one, then another K75, I never really cared for the K bike "noise". It sounded sterile, and antiseptic like, sort of like some electric power plant. But I came to like it, it fit with the smoothness. I don't recall the K100 having quite the same noise. For my own safety I am not going to proffer any ideas on where the K bike noise originates from.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you, it is most certainly not the fuel pump.... I am generally a "Lurker", I don't post a lot.... if I have a query or something to say that may help a member out etc I just PM them. But seeing as this has turned into a pissing match and threatens to ruin a good thread on modified K's, here it goes......... I currently own.... K75S (86), K75S (89) K75C, K100RS (86), K100RS (SE), K100RS (Style), K1 (yellow/red), K1 (yellow/blue), K100LT, K100RS4v, K1200RS (taxi cab), K100 basic (84), K100 Basic (89). I have 9 other parts K bike's. I have owned and rebuilt a lot more. Are currently building a K75GS and also K100RS2v with single seat, under gear box exhaust, larger injectors etc with an externally mounted fuel pump. This bike still whines, it is not the fuel pump, but hey WTF would I know......... Also while I am on a rant, you referred to a picture of someones bike in this thread as a "POS", where I come from and I would think most people would think the same, that is simply just rude. I have the fortune, (some may insanity) to have the resources to own a few bikes, some people don't and have different ideas as to what they like and won't be swayed by main stream thinking. I accept and aknowledge that..... it would be a freakin boring world if we all liked the same stuff. Now please back to the pictures and info on oddball "K's"
