Hello Jimmy,
with 'the company asking for copies' I really mean HD ... your bike would be a beautiful addition to the range of their bikes. And it would be the first Harley to cause sleepless nights to me...
Kind regards, Bambi

Hey, thats a nice compliment - thanks. Barnett's magazine is doing an article on the bike now, so maybe HD will see it and ..... ???

Alot - prototyping is pricey, but I ended up with a bike I really like - priceless

Im working on what the costs would be in volume and will post when done.

I guess "alot" is relative depending on your situation, so to put it in perspective, less than $15k including the cost of the bike that I bought used.

Gday Jimmy, just read the lot.
Not a Hoggley bloke normally, but I DO have a soft spot for the Sporties, really like the way they ride. Your creation has gotta be better on the red grease clay mud I have in winter locally than your average roadie, that it's light on-road too is great.

Your build is magic man, very cool!
Congratulations.

Yah, i agree ! - The key is that these old sporties are pretty cheap to pick up. Then you can go wild customizing.

Getting to know the bike...

Did a nice 100 mile loop today over to the coast and hit this nice little dirt road called Artichoke. Nice day and the sporty did nicely at speed on the dirt.

Rear suspension

For the suspension guru's out there - Finally measured the rear shocks sag. The shocks are a bit on the stiff side, so looking into softer springs.

Here are the numbers:

Installed Spring Lenght = 10.25 inch (there is no compression on spring - I have them just touching the compression nuts)

Static Sag on Stand = A = 25.25 (shocks fully extended)

Bike Sag = B1 = 23.5
Bike Sag = B2 = 23.5

Static Sag = A-(B1+B2)/2 = 25.25 - (23.5+23.5)/2 = 1.75 inch

Rider Sag measurement = C = (22.5+22.375)/2 = 22.4375 inch

Rider Sag = A - C = 25.25 - 22.4375 = 2.8125 inch

Klaus at YSS is looking into it and will suggest a softer set of springs

REF:
46 = spring ID
25 = starting rate = 140 lbs/inch
45 = ending rate = 250 lbs/inch
260 = free length (10.24 inch)

DISREGUARD ! - REBOUND DAMPING ON FORKS AND SHOCKS WERE WAY OVER-DAMPED !!!

All dialed in now and suspension feels gooooooood !
