Jim, it was nice meeting you today. You and your bike got a lot of attention! Glad you brought it.

You were busy and I was just about to leave when I remembered to snap a shot. Maybe I should photo shop that guy out.

I also test fitted it on a stock Sportster and it works with a minor mod to a stock seat - just remove some of the foam under the cover and it fits good.

Here's some pictures and I'll be posting more as the testing progresses.

We're anticipating having the tank kit ready to sell by June which will include petcocks, cap, mounting brackets, and fasteners.

Hmm.. I think the biggest hurdle could be is to come up with a price because a 4.5 gallon fuel tank could be had for $178, but it weights 9-10lbs dry. It will probably boil down to how much is worth saving few pounds for extra half gallon (including modifying work to the seat). I'm still waiting to see how this play out..

But seriously, I love black tank.. it would look real good on mine!

Hi

Just read through the thread. I can't add anything to that which has already been said. VERY impressive.

I'm wondering though; what potential is there for loading the bike up with panniers and stuff, for those who might want to use one for a rtw or the like?

Thanks. Panniers are on my list of accessories to make. Im thinking about a tube frame that soft side panniers strap to. I also already have the Wolfman tank panniers that hold quite a bit.

SC3 Adventure #2

I'm just finishing up the second SC3 Adventure and getting both bikes ready for the Quail Motorcycle Gathering next Saturday 5/17 in Carmel Valley, CA. The new one will be on the lawn and the prototype will be in front of Evan Wilcox's booth showing his Aluminum tank on the bike.

Here's a pic of the two together. I'll be posting more of the 2nd bike after the show, but its a ground up build with a white powder coated frame and rear fender. The Aluminum tank will also be painted and have our new CDS logo (the new plastic 5 gallon tank is whats installed in the picture). I like #2 better than my first prototype - maybe I'll keep it!

Hey Jim,

I don't know if you get all the articles written about you bikes.

This one was in the German magazine "Motorrad" about 2 weeks ago:

fuel tank

You did a great job on that IMS tank.I wonder if IMS would be interested in designing some plastic pack boxes?Nice rounded edges and lids reinforced in the correct areas, I think they would be a winner!

Thanks for the sharing it. I had not seen this. I remember the picture being taken last year at the Quail and talking to the Motorrad guy & his wife/gf/???. Nice couple and they were liking the bike! Looks like it finally made it in the mag.

Thanks! They might be, and they're a great group to work with as I found out, but the development costs are not cheap if its going to be roto molded. There would have to be a lot of interest for it before giving it a go.

I've been considering going the route of designing a frame that holds soft panniers and could also accept hard luggage, probably a custom design because of the available area. Now that bike 2 is done, I'll see what I can come up with.

Do you need a translation? My English is horrible but maybe a bit better than a google translation

Here's the new bike on the lawn at the Quail Motorcycle Gathering last weekend. Great show and met a lot of people that were into the Sportster dual sport idea.
