I love the V-Strom outfits, have one myself, put together by the master himself, Claude. Glad to see another one on the road, and yes, a hacked strom ralleye is called for as suggested by someone else earlier on this thread. Maybe you< NW rider.

I do have a question though, and certainly understand I am more of an observer than a doer when it comes to hacks and mounting them. I always read about triangulation when it comes to the mounts and how they deal with the forces under extreme braking, acceleration and such. It seems that under hard braking the lateral ? forces would stress the mounting points themselves as the loads would all be transferred directly to them since the upper and lower mounts look as they are all parallel. This could be from the camera angle making it appear this way.

Keep in mind I'm trying to learn something here because someday I am going to take the plunge and build an off-road outfit like Red Menace menaces the Pacific NW with. Don't mean to say good, bad or whatever, just commenting. I love that tub shape and the V-Strom eyes, you really stumbled across a gem with that baby.

Enjoy that sucker, I do mine. You may want a gear change, I went to 16/45 and Wow, what a difference for the off highway puttin along, and even for the pavement.

The bottom mounts on the frame are spead out,but the subframe mounts are as wide as I could get them.I see what your saying, thats why I tried to spread out the load on the bottom mounts. This pic kinda shows it better.

Your rig is really looking good; I envy your talents. Amazing how much progress you have made. Lord, I really have to get a welder. I end up assemblying parts out of cardboard, then 1/8" aluminum, then bolted together steel pieces. Then I take the piece/device to a local fab/welding shop and have them dupe it to my model. It works, but my progress is about at the same speed as continemtal drift...

Hey, could you advise as to what LED tail light that is?

I had a welder for a dad,I hated welding when I was young but about 20 years ago I decided that I could NOT afford to buy the things I wanted ( 4X4 stuff) so I started building them. The tail light is a standard 4" LED for semi trucks and trailers,if there is a truck shop OR truck stop around you they will have them.
Now off to the SHED..

Talk to you guys later............

I think the new suspension is going to work ( I will find in the morning). The torsion bar setup was SUSPOSED to be a 250lb unit,BUT I put 500lbs on it and it only moved about 3/4 of a inch !!!.The new one is soft by design so I think it will work better. Here's a hint..think old school !!!

IT WORKED !!!!!
I got it all put back together today AND got almost a 100 mile ride in.I just rode around on the side streets for awhile till I got use to it,then out on the freeway for about 70 miles.Go's pretty straight at 70mph!!..The new suspension is a LEAF SPRING setup. It cost me about $10.00,I work for a company that also sells ClubCar golf cars so you know where the spring and poly bushings came from.I lost about 5-6 inches of ground clearence,BUT I still have over a foot.I put a air shock off of a Kawasaki 550 on it BUT it was to stiff so off it came !!.When I got ready to put the tub back on it didn't fit with the shock tower so off it came also.I will put another tower on it and get a regular auto shock because with my wife in the car it tends to bounce a bit.The LED lights work great,as does the SUPER BRIGHT LED light on the front of the car.I still need to cut a new windshield and paint the tub but I can ride it like it is till next weekend.
