Got the subframes done tonight ( except for the lower mounts ).They came off ok,I just hope they go back on easy,I tried to make sure that I tack welded everything on the bike well. Now I will do all the final welds and grinding and make them look good, paint them and back on before the weekend.I'm hoping that the rig will be ridable by Sunday night !!..This is the RIGHT side..

Now come on, I don't think you've aged enough to not be able to remember which side goes where.
Ok, I'll go climb back in my box, but I will pop out again.

I got the subframe done today( welded, sanded, and painted),Mounted it on the bike, tightend all the bolts down. Here is where I ran into my first real problem of this whole build.IF I push REALLY hard ( back against a wall and feet on the subframe)I can get the subframe to move side to side about 1/8-1/4 of a inch,in the front.I know that doesn't sound like much BUT the sidecar will put alot more stress than that ( I THINK ??) and I don't want any flex if I can help it.So tomorrow morning I will go back out and sit next to the bike until I find another mounting point for the bottom of the subframe.

I have had setups on my Airheads that I swore were rock solid when I "tested" them in the garage that I could see moving when cornering. And those had a full double-craddle perimeter frame that a subframe was attached to. That sucks in a bad way...

Any pictures for us armchair engineers?
![]() This is what I am in the process of doing to mine to stiffen the connnection at the footpeg mounts. (clamps the brackets to the frame) The rod goes from one side of the bike to the other with just enough room. Hope this helps though yours has a different engine. Mind you I am a bit frustrated by being away from home for a month now apart from a few days with at least a week to go before I finnish the current project. ( its cool though with helicopters and a mountain involved) Look forward to your solution. ![]() Cheers Bruce |

Well my subframe mounts to the frame below the tank ( between the GIVI crash bar mounts) and to the foot pegs.I DIDN'T go to the centerstand,I wanted to keep it for tire maint.I have a crossbar connecting the front BUT it's just bolted.I was thinkig about welding the cross bar ( if I have to remove the subframe I would just cut it ).I might have to go to the centerstand mounts!!,but that is far back from where the movement is.I wish I had that extra motormount like the 650 has !!!.
I'm heading out to the shed here soon....
