Should I buy my cousin's 1969 Jaguar XKE?

My cousin has offered to sell me her father's 1969 Jaguar XKE convertible for $10000. It's (almost) a runner, has been repainted and has many new parts, including exhaust, wiring harness and wire wheels. I'll have to transport it across the country, finish the interior, complete the dashboard, rebuild the carbs and replace the top. It sounds like a bargain to me. Am I out of my freaking mind to even consider it?

Buy it now. Do not wait.

$10k for it, $20k to fix it up & $3k to get it home. If you choose to sell it, maybe $80 or $90k. Generalities of course in price.

Investment value aside, the XKE is an absolute work of art! Buy it to stare at it!

I'm still kicking myself from when you could buy them all day long for $5k. 30 years ago.

Do it, a project that is fun to drive and will go up in value should be worth it.

Buy it and start a thread immediately. It's getting rare to find something so desirable that's actually affordable--passing this up is a guaranteed recipe for regret down the road.

your a LITTLE bit optimistic here bud. series two cars are not worth as much as series one's.. car would have to have a great pedigree with near prefect coach work.. most(not all) hobbiest won't get this type of money.

3k is high for shipping.

how much time will you have to dedicate to it? will it effect your riding time?
this car will take five hours a month every month to keep it up.

you ever seen behind the dash of one? wiring the dash will take patience and time.
i will take pics of the one dash i have to do next week.

have you seen the paint work? was it done 10 months ago or ten years ago?
how long has the car been setting? I always say $2000 for every year it has been setting..

you better think this thru ... art in motion when they are done but can be a pile to maintain.

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating; the GS handles in ways a two-story building was never meant to.

Taking collections for Faye Butler Training please spare some change.

Remember red and yellow make orange.so to think orange is better means you have to use two steps to get there.

I love the look of the E-type too. Their weakness is rusting floor and body panels and poor wiring. For $10K I'd buy it even if those were known issues.

My dad bought one new back in the 60s. He raced professionally ( not in the jag ) and was a decent shade tree mechanic. He spent a lot of time fooling with carbs and wiring.

You should either be flush with cash or be willing and able to do most of the work yourself. And have lots of spare time.

And keep in mind that it is a 50year old design. It was great back then, but a Honda Odyssey will outcorner, outbrake, and come darn close to out accelerating it now.
