Truthfully it's the way to go. As soon as you set a bike up for one specific terrain type / usage, anything outside that is a compromise at best.

I have an XR 250R, and was unhappy with the power on more open dirt riding, so bought a KTM 690E.

Turns out the 690 is pretty damn good in tight riding too, and I never ride the XR. Aside from having a spare bike for buddies to ride, or me when the 690 is in pieces, it's just taking up space in the garage. I'm selling it to get a Ute at the end of this week.

Two! Why not three?

In the garage sits two 2006 BMW F650GS's and one Suzuki LS650 "Savage". There was an additional "Savage" up until 2007 when it sold. We think we have a buyer for the one that's left. We bought the "Savages" when we lived in the city and lived in a condominium, brushed up on our riding skills and used them heavily for our short commute and for errands. Moved far from the city and bought the GS's for the long distance commute and for long vacation trips. Still love the "Savage" but I would really like it out of the garage. Regards, Jim.

DR650 and XT225. The XT is for when I get tired of picking up the DR outta the dirt.

DR gets the nod for easy dirt road running. XT for a bit more offroading, but nothing spectacular.

Both make good loaner bikes for friends as well. I'll lend the XT to buddies when we do a close range camping trip. Any road trip, I'll lend the DR and I'll ride my SV.
Excellent, our country is now run by folks that would allow you to smoke pot in Washington State, but not buy a Big-Gulp in New York.

08 KLR
08 WR250R

Two different thumpers for different riding. Thinking about selling the KLR for a te630 someday.

I just bought a used DR650 as my first dual sport, can see another machine on the plate in the near future. I commute 85 miles a day and with diesel at $4 a gallon, the pickup is painful! I can see setting the DR up with 90/10 tires and using it for commuting, and adding a WR250R for a play bike to ride to the woods.

As to selling the wife on the idea...they are both blue...if one more happened to show up and she stays out of the shop and never sees both at the same time, she'd never know. Works with the gun collection...

95 MZ Replica,97 600 CCM,05 525 SX,05 650R plus 12 other non thumpers. Why does a person have to justify this habit to anyone but themselves? Each has there own niche.

I've got 3.

An '08 DR650, '02 XR400 and an '04 625smc.

The 650 replaced another DR650 I sold in a moment of stupidity. Use it for exploring the backroads and DS areas around here. The XR400 is for the dirt and the 625smc is for commuting and schooling the 'racer' set on 129.
