I'm sitting here at the other side of the pond and crying my heart out.

If its mechanically sound, $5700 is probably OK. Right near the go/no-go line....At a glance, mufflers are not original nor "correct", to my eye the fairing and bags are lame-o and could be sold off, but they would not bring much. The aft seat is not period, but perhaps useable, etc etc etc..
Unless you really want the project..... |

Snot on my face...
I thought the "5" was a dollar sign and I was ready to take Greyhound up and push the bike back barefoot if I had to. My dear wonderful bpeckm- I owe you so much for clearing that up for me.

That is the worst thing about getting information about the bike from a friend or someone you know. You don't know what the price is for sure till you directly talk to the owner. First you get that warm fuzzy feeling that you are getting a deal of the life time. Then you talk to the owner, and because you show some interest, he jacks up the price and won't go a dime lower. It happened to me with number of bikes. At that point I just make an offer, leave my contact info and walk away. 20% of the time I get call back, a month later, and we seal the deal. Sometimes when they call back I've changed my mind as well. There is just so many variables playing in when you want to get a great deal. Anyway, great post.

But stay in touch with the seller. You may be able to deal with him when reality hits.
