single tracked yesterday

It was short and sweet but gave me a taste of what a narrow semi technical singletrack is like on the 990. The bike became twice as long and twice as wide

That short section of trail between the parking area at the Mt. Defiance gate and the old Warren Lake parking area. I couldn't resist the temptation

It might be off limits to motorized vehicles

So, did you ride out the old road after the unmentioned single track?

I could see where guys were going around the barriers but I did not.

I remember riding up that old road as a kid on 125's and remember how awful rocky it was back then so I wasn't eager to tackle it alone. Need more time on the bigger bike to gain some confidence.

Was the gate closed? It was open a week ago.

Any current snow recon on the east side of hood above 4K (cold springs, dufur mill)?

Is the RAtH asylum going to riding blackdog this year? Sorry haven't been keeping up....Will be fun to see the new skoots ...

From my place in Mosier about 4 weeks ago, I road up on ketchum to johns mills and hit snow where mill cr ridge t-bones into john mills (~3600ft). AJ, same spot from our sun ride last year, but with less than half the snow depth, good sign. I would expect it to be about gone at this point.

So, AJ's SPOT is down at Summit lake kind of late in the evening! It said it's having fun but I just have to wonder if they aren't a little wet? Maybe he will have some new photo's to post....

What - AJ Wet? Guess that could happen... like yesterday

Hmm...maybe this isn't the best place to carry my stereo?

At least he was able to warm himself up with a little fire...and wishful thinking. Fortunately it was soft wood.

Okay, maybe we did find a little more "water" this morning.

For what it's worth, we were able to ride Barlow Road from Wamic to Mt. Hood, but you better like a little "Snowshoeing" and "mudbogging". AJ said he was gonna spend another night out there under the stars. Jungle Man and I left him on Hwy 35 about 1pm or so, and he was full of smiles, on his 990, like always.

For a crossing like this, with this depth, should he have kept his chin up, and focused on the other side of the stream, plenty of gas leaning way back in the seat?
Or, feet out, dog paddling slowly manipulating the bike to the otherside?

A combo of each?
Does it matter?
It's fun to watch someone else flop in the juice?
"quick, grab your camera!"

?

Show him, don't tell him... I'll hold your beer and the camera

I think I am going to have to go with Craig's technique on this one.
