Since I piched the back tube installing the NEW 908 on Wednesday eve,
I had to use my new HD spare tube and patch the pinch and use it for my only spare.

Saturday's flat was from an obvious nail, on Grasshopper Rd, middle o' nowhere
I put in my patched pinch-flat spare HD tube, and it failed later in the heat of the day, but it got me another 100+ miles
....pretty close to the night's camp.

In the morning, it was cooler, and the newly patched nail-holed non-HD tube from Saturday got me about 150 miles all the way home

....then... 4 hours later I go out to the garage, and it's flat
Goes to show, patches will fail, but they might just get you home
Glad I put in that patch kit !!

I don't know what caused the front flat ??

I didn't cut any trees up there, somebody else musta beat me to that.
...but I cut several around Timothy Lake area, on my secret stash 2-track

From Government Camp to Timothy Lake
Timothy lake to Olallie lake
Past Olallie out the south end to 46
Cross 46 and get up on Rhododendron ridge heading north
Work your way up to high rocks
Take Abbott road to Estacada
Have a cold one.
What do you think?

You won't get far past Olallie. Snow just past Britenbush Lake. Had a guy from Benddualsport.com try it last week, didn't make it. Probably won't be ridable until 2nd week of August.

Here's his GPS route. Close but it's a really shaded area. Same place I got stopped 7/4/2009 and same place another Bend rider got stopped in Mid August last year.

Anyone confirm this? Interesting history.

Little ride on Friday

I was able to go for a nice long daytrip this last Friday, right through some of the areas Mortimer has been recently sharing....all I can say is WOW! This was my first time riding in this region and I was absolutely blown away by the roads and the unbelievable landscapes. Now that I have "discovered" this part of my neighborhood, I will be returning quite often...can't wait to make the ride out to John Day!

my route - ended up being 311 miles and about 10 hours with all the stops

I got caught in a torrential cloudburst, I mean, it was like riding through a waterfall with hail thrown in...it only lasted for about 5 miles though, and I had donned some of my rain gear earlier due to the high winds/chilly temps, so everything was good and soaked, but I was dry and this quaint little park provided a nice drying break....

Rowe Creek Rd/ S Twickenham was one of the coolest parts of this ride......dreamlike.....

Had to make the detour to the Painted Hills/Fossil Beds

All in all, one of the best rides I've ever been on.......

See you at the Gorge Gathering!!

That looks like a great ride. I really need to go see the Painted Hills in person one of these days.

Thanks for posting the map of your route.

Nice & desolate on Twickenham.
Good route for a brewery tour.
