What was the temp?, and was the snow sticky or slick?

Yeah, there were a couple of 10 yard slopes that went on for miles. Mid 20s, I'd guess. On the one fire road 15mph was about my limit before my fingers got too cold. I'll bring windproof gloves next time. I'm sure I was never over 10mph on the trails.

The snow was great, hard and crunchy. The iced clay was not so good, especially once the trials tire polished it up. Alex rode up one little slope, no problem. I got stuck, took about 10 tries before I gave up and dragged the bike sideways up the hill (it was a sorry little hill, for sure). Then Alex tried riding Craig's bike up and got stuck on the slick I made.

A little riding on the first day of the year where there should be 5 feet of snow!

From what I saw today it might be possible! Not sure about the top of Barlow Rd. you might have snow at the top end but from below Barlow Crossing you might be fine!

This is at 4500'

I got iced out of the Red Hill Guard Station yesterday. Old snow from several weeks ago has turned basically to ice and going sideways became easier than going uphill at a certain point. Made it to maybe 1/2 mile to Perry Lake. Nice kick-ass ride up and back, tho...

I would expect most of Barlow to be snowless, but the top from FS43 to Hwy35 likely has similar old frozen stuff.

I would guess it's worth a shot, but I have not been right near there recently. Warm-ish 40-50 days, but cold-ass mornings and nights.

FYI, what Pruitt and I found at Pine Mont last Sunday was 50% primo conditions--trail that was in the woods--and 50% a bit sketchy and icy slippery. I actually spun my bike around 180 deg on the single track under the powerlines as I hit an icy rock, inadvertently spun the throttle, and pivoted the bike around my left leg. Hip and hamstring now keeping me out of commission for a bit. Hope to heal up before the snow comes. It is coming, right? Be careful out there.

Winter Riding

I haven't posted anything in a while, but got to get out and do a little riding with this beautiful winter weather we are having. Thought I would share a few pictures.

Started riding back and forth to work again, didn't think that January would be like this.
