Hope to meet some new folks.
Welcome!!
I think you'll be surprised at how little pavement we'll ride on this Suicide Ride. About 8-10 miles of empty 2-lane country road getting us out of Mosier will be all the pavement there is. No highways at all. The rest is all DIRT (and ROCKS ). Very little gravel, even.....

One - a heads up to riders around the Hood that to be careful of getting caught riding 'out of bounds' because Big Brother (not me) is indeed watching.

Two - I'm concerned about losing access to riding that is open to us moto heads. The main reason lands and private roads (like a lot of the timber lands around the Hood, especially on the WA side) are getting closed is that people in general (not just us adv riders) are not honoring closed/gated lands.

Part of it too might just be that people are sometimes unaware of where they are riding. Need to be educated. Underwood Mountain (I would consider to be 'around the Hood' area) was closed completely to access by SDS because of abuse of the privilege of access, and I understand their philosophy.

I don't mean to sound preachy, I just don't want to lose any more of our access rights.
Yep totally sucks. I lived in Mill A (Parents still do.) I used to hunt on the FS land up on the west NW side of Underwood. One of the privatge land owners on the SE used to not care is we used the old logging spur to ride up the mountain but he had so much trouble with trashy camping and what not He started hounding the county and FS and SDS (Hes a old logging family guy) that they shut it all down. SDS was spending several hundred thousand every summer to pick up trash.. It got really ugly. We also lost a really good spot that was used as a local shooting range. We used to maintain it had benches swinging targets the whole deal then it became a trash dump.. Poof closed..

I still believe many of the SDS closures are Illegal, the roads were deeded easements and built with federal money. But they hire thier own patrol and write tickets on behalf of the County/State/Fed so what do ya do?

I miss that area ...

SWEET!!

It looks like two DRZ's and an XR650L will be there and are excited to explore the area with a knowledgeable route leader.

Now be sure to take it easy on me....I usually ride a Tiger on forest roads and am just now starting to explore more rugged routes on the DRZ.

The guys left just after 9:00, so if no one is at the totem pole, just wait. They will be along shortly.

Here was the whole crew before we left.

Got to see some great scenery out there.

A short stop for snacks.

We even got a demo on roadside chain repair.

Weather was great all day, but here was the drive home.

Squishy and I showed up at Apple Jams a day early to do some riding and visiting.

Not 5 minutes from Apple Jam's house,

Squishy ready to go.

After hanging around in AJ's neighborhood (often lost), we crossed over the scary bridge to Washington and dropped in on Matloik. Hi Matt and Suzi!

Decided to give our dirt tires a workout and played around a bit up here.

Love the green grass this time of year. Alas, too windy for the hang gliders, but did see a few turkeys.

Sunday, our fearless ride leader took us some of his favorite local rides. You really rock that little loaner 200 AJ. Thanks Shelley!

Flirted with rain at times, but that just made the view's more interesting.

Nice riding along Mill Creek Road.

Got the jump and snuck out in front and about endo'd in this mud puddle...so...camera out!

CatFlap tasting the mostly muddy puddle. Visor down Jason!

Squishy keeping his feet dry, while wheelieing.

Smooth mark...he's so smooth he doesn't even make spashes!

Way to go XB12R. Pleasure talking with you at lunch Rod.

There's AJ!

XB12R showing how it's done on the way back out.

Some nice views before the "Downhill-o-death"

Thanks guys, pleasure riding with you all, and hope you all made it home safe. Thanks again Shelley and AJ for putting Mark, Squishy and I up and even feeding us.

I had a real fine time. It was my first time on Hedges Grade. AJ's little detour on Suicide was interesting. I almost crashed out about 20 times but managed to save it. It was nice meeting you guys. Now let's see some videos!
