Abbott Road is open

A few of us did Abbott Sunday. Snow is completely gone from a week ago. It is clear all the way from the west to the slip. The slip was in decent shape (it is what it is). There were some obstacles east of the slip (blowdown) and we ran into a couple of guys in an older landcruiser with a winch who were trying to clear the blow down - however the guy forgot his chainsaw so it was slow going.

East end of Abbott Road (near High Rock)

Sunday around Hood.

Got myself out around Hood this weekend, first time i've ridden around in that area and was it a blast! I'm still working out my traveling situation on the bike and all the crap I think I need to bring so it was a good test ride.

I didn't really know where to go or which way to go about getting to it so I just made a route on google maps and exported the gpx file to my Galaxy S5 I use as a GPS and went for it.

This is the route I made, it won't work for various reasons but I wanted something to test my GPS/Phone combo out with.

http://goo.gl/maps/h0U7Y

Took the supermoto wheels off saturday evening ( saw a couple hundred people on there way to the World Naked Bike Ride here in PDX ).

Rode out from PDX to Still Creek Rd and took that to Government Camp for Gas. No Snow up on Still Creek either.

On my way to Barlow Trail

I think that I managed to get off Barlow Trail and onto and development road but I was having a blast so I didn't care. Stopped for a quick beverage and sandwich break.

This was where my shot in the dark route turned sideways. I had planned to go to Keeps Mill Rd. but when I got to the river I decided I didn't want to go swimming so backtracking I went!

From there I went and rode out the rest of Barlow Trail, at least I think as I had no GPX route at this point and my maps cached had no roads. Took the last break and ate the rest of my sandwich next the the White River.

I went back to hwy26 and rode back to with the sun blaring in my eyes, great day!

You guys must have been right behind me. I met Landcruiser guys (and Sadie the dog) at the slip. Did the Landcruiser get that first log moved or did you go over/under?

A few snaps...
Side trip up to Squaw Mountain

How NOT to do The Slip

Tree fall #1 and #2. There were a couple more beyond this but these were the trickiest.

we ramped the bikes over the big tree. We came across those guys after the big tree (how did they get around it is the question). They were trying to push the high tree off the road. We had to bulldog my bike down the slip - at least you tried. Going up the other side was easy. I can't imagine riding up the west side. Nice pics!

Looks to be right in the corner of the west side of the slip. Pictures don't convey how steep it is.

Yeah, I had the [not so] brilliant idea of trying to cross over the wash up high instead of taking the steep 'n deep ruts down. Turning radius of the Husky made it a chore. Also the bike doesn't roll as well when it's on its side :)

Sunday on Barlow

Headed out solo on Sunday from PDX with the plan of checking out Barlow Rd. and making sure my GPS/Phone combo worked well enough to trust it.

Took the "commuting" wheels off the evening before

I thought I might be able to go down Keeps Mill Rd. to go over to Abbott Rd. but there was no way I was going to cross that river
Is that ever a passable water crossing?

Thinking about playing hookie Friday to try and hit Abbott Rd. if anyone is of a like mind. All the pics i'm seeing are making me jealous

My buddy Brian has a 2000. Those are good bikes (wicked fast) but parts can be hard to come by. Looks like we were only an hour behind you.

All these pictures got me antsy to ride again Hate having the bike down.

Still waiting for a few back-ordered parts. They shipped yesterday, so soon.

I blew a seal on my forks on the Barlow or Bust weekend (cleaning it didn't improve the leak, I've read the stock seals on the CRF suck). Totally worth it though. Plus it made me decide to order up all the goodies to take the stock forks about as far as they can be taken since I'll have them apart anyway. Springs, gold valves, SKF seals. Should rock.

Just saw on the news that there is a forest fire up Pinemont/FS-17. Reporter was standing at what appeared to be the OHV staging area. How far from there the 50-acre (so far) fire is was unclear.

The fire was up the road about a mile and on the ridge across the little valley. It's the same ridge that NF 1710 runs across. Sounds like they should have it fully contained by tomorrow. Pinemont has been closed all day and probably the next few days until it's mopped up.
