That's why I prefer groups of two. I'll happily wait for one.
It gets old waiting for several. And sometimes I'm the slow one, too.

And I will also agree that at least someone in EVERY small buddy group must be fully prepared with Maps and GPS.
In my opinion, GPS alone is insufficient for safety in the middle of nowhere.

As you all ponder on the endless route options for this summer, here's a couple teaser vids I just finished from my OBDR and TAT ride last fall. I'd ride this route again in a heart beat.

I have property off osborn cutoff rd near mosier so guess that kind of puts us in the same cherry hood

That's what I'm signing up for, just what I saw in your vids.
Roads barely travelled, towns long since vibrant, and lots and lots of forest in between .

You gave me my morning rush already, jacked up even , and I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet

I am a little late posting this up; I finally found the micro sized USB cable this dang camera needs

Last Friday, local inmate scottnt and I took off up the Klickitat River, and visited Goldendale, Roosevelt, Bickleton, & Mabton,
to help break in his new GSA.
I haven't been on East of Goldendale much, not until Walla Walla and Dayton,
where I spent 3 wonderful months as a kid just out of the BIG shitty city of LA.
So today, Bickleton and Roosevelt called me.


I had indication that the 20% rain forecast was not going to be a problem.
The Alpen Glow on the Hood at 6:50am was a very good sign



If you ever go up the Klickitat River Canyon, you absolutely must stop at your first right, at the old Railroad Bridge, where Fisher Road crosses the river.
Fisher Road is an excellent gravel travel all it's own, up to Appleton & Snowden, but not today.



That Railroad has been turned into a rails-to-trails and this ^^^ bridge is paved over for bicycles and hikers,
if you don't have a throttle to twist .

The Klickitat narrows up here into a deep fast chute that makes for perfect dipnet fishing for the Native Americans.
White men don't get to fish here, until above the fishladders and falls, just upriver.
If you catch this portion of the river at spawning time, you'll see a scene that looks like those old pictures of Salmon; crowded, bright pink, and plentiful.



It's one of my favorite rivers, the kind that makes you at least consider selling one of those bikes in the Garage that you don't use much anymore,
take the money and go buy a driftboat and a fishing license .

The forest encroaches into the North end of Goldendale, and it's not very far North, before you reach the Yakima Nation.

Stay out of the forest roads there, unless you are invited.
I've got a $125 "reminder" from a different trip up that way to convince me .

We tooled around several of the roads just South of the reservation, most just seemed to go in a circle of squared off roads.
Other roads ended for us at least, in a greasy, non graveled, slimy and puddle filled dead-end.
It was an easy vote, to stop here and turn around, there was not much distance before the border of the res anyway.



East of Goldendale a bit is the Rock Creek Canyon, and it was suddenly decision time:
This beautiful paved two lane to Bickleton.....


Or this very attractive gravel road at the bottom of this Canyon.



We were on Adventure bikes, dammit, so it wasn't a real hard decision at all;
The pavement could wait for the return leg.

This was a pretty, if barren canyon along Rock Creek. It was very peaceful, and pretty fast; the gravel was reasonably shallow.
I think I'll have to come back here when the hills are green and yellow from Spring, full of rain-fed grass and Balsam Root Flowers.

Around a couple dozen corners, and it was break-time for a Pay-Day bar and a pee.
This Shooting Range graveyard of dead cars was just the spot.

While stopped here for 20 minutes, we saw like 6 cars and trucks go by.
We thought we were alone out here.

The lady in the EMPTY M&T's Bar & Grill, said they talk about the burgers "all around here".
Not much to talk about in Roosevelt apparently.
They hit the spot, but right here is about all I'll ever talk about them ever again

Above Roosevelt, on the road North to Bickleton is a great view spot.
Pictures don't do this spot justice.
I took several, but they all looked boring. Truth is the view was of NOTHING. For miles and miles and miles.
Just windmills and nothing as far as you can see.



From here, we pretty much hauled ass on the empty and very cold hilltop to Bickleton, and then a quick fuel run to Mabton.
On that road, my bright Orange bike was seen quickly approaching somebody's rear view mirror, while he was cruising along at about 55mph.
Instead of passing, I got to match big speeds for a bit with a newer Shelby Mustang, showing off what third and fourth gear can do .

We got to come back down that windy pavement that you saw back in this RR, back to Goldendale, then Hwy 97, to 14, to The Dalles,
and the end of our journey for the day.

Now I kept seeing several posts of admiration for capabilities of that Scrambler on the Hell's Canyon Thread last year.

And I'm looking forward to your GREAT photos that include that pretty Green Machine.

Bring it. I need someone else with a big bike to laugh at me once in a while when I deserve it and fall.
And then help me pick it back up.

AJ, PM sent for March weekend day ride from Mosier. Would be nice to tap into what you've found for connectors between hood river valley and ketchum flats area south of mosier.
