I do hope that that both the NFL & NFLPA realize how that a lost season will do TREMENDOUS damage to their sport. I'm sure they understand it, but I also think their is this attitude of "the fans will be back.....we're the NFL."

I just hope the NBA goes on strike for good!!!

We're having lots of fun here in MN. The governor and the legislature have said that $300mil is the most they'll contribute to a stadium, with city/county sales tax and -oh, yeah, the actual freaking owner of the team- kicking in the rest.

The idiot owner then struck a deal with Ramsey County (St. Paul and suburbs) that would require both 300myn from the state and 240myn in road construction. Oh, and there is no light rail to this site, unlike the dome site.

Just a big fucking facepalm all the way around. two weeks left in the legislative session, its not gonna get done. I understand Wilf wanting to build on the Arden Hills ammo plant (superfund ) site, so he can make money off developing hotels and shit nearby. But he seems to be missing the point that the consensus around the state is that he should fund it.

So I could give a fuck if they play football or not. The baseball season ends as the hockey season begins.

Nice. The economy is still as shaky as can be and billionaire NFL owners still expect to receive government handouts.

The best part is our newly red legislature is all but refusing to raise taxes for the general fund. Cutting 14.4% from an already underfunded state university system, 'maintaining' health and human services budgets that last year had federal funding and do not this year.

But we can jack up sales and property taxes to fund a private enterprise.

FUCK YOU, YOU POLITICIAN FUCKS

In other news, one of the ridiculously wealthy players called out a former teammate for 'not being black enough', apparently in return for being 'disrespected' at an afterparty several years ago.

I've been a casual football fan my whole life but in today's climate, with the players acting like they're in the NBA and the owner's egos bigger than ever, I think I'll just check out.

I'm getting progressively more disgusted with the whole thing, and also losing interest.

As for the owners getting state/local subsidies or tax dollars to build their stadiums, fuck that. Same for baseball, basketball etc...

With the current price of tickets, I haven't been to a major league stick and ball sporting event in years, nor do I plan to. I have attended motor racing events, though.

I side with the players in this, if only because they're putting their bodies (lives?) on the line, and should be compensated accordingly. Who's playing the game, anyway? The owners or the players? I compare the owners to the big banking mofos, greedy bastards all.

Sure, it's a game, as well as big business, but it wouldn't be much without the players out there. And it's a short and brutal career for most.

Couldn't agree with you more on public funding. How in the hell can these states afford it? Oh right.....THEY CAN'T! When Kraft built Gillette Stadium here in Mass, the only the state paid for was infrastructure, which I didn't mind as they improved the roads and the ease of traffic. I can understand infrastructure, but the stadium should be built with private funds. And people wonder why our economy is collapsing.

A settlement is expected in July barring some stupidity not yet recognized.
