I feel like I'm 14 again
I have spent several years searching for a nice example of my 1st street legal motorcycle to add the two-wheeled stable. At the "mature" age of 14, I finally convinced my parents to allow me to purchase a motorcycle. It was needed for my early career as a media mogul and transportation. That bike was a brand-new blue 1979 Yamaha DT125F. I have yet to find another example of that blue Yammie. I must have bought the only one.
![]() Today, I acquired a stunning all original specimen of a '79 Yamaha DT175F. To the wayback machine! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rode it around a little today. Sure brings back some great memories! Now if I could only get back the hair I had when I was 14!

I recall when I was in grade 6, my buddy's dad had one just like that-same colours even. He had a 100 of his own.
We snuck in the garage and took his dad's, he rode the 175, I rode my buddy's 100. We were in the woods and he wandered off trail a bit and ggot a stick speared right thru his calf muscle, then crashed the bike into a tree. We were in some trouble.

Bring it on!
![]() I saw your new toy. When I got my 125, my neighbor friend got a TS like yours. We raced often, I usually got him, especially off road. Then he bought a KDX175 and it was all over.

Wow, thats purty! My brother has the same bike. Paid $15 for it, had to pressure wash the mouse nest / seed storage out of the muffler, cranckase, and carb, sanded the rust out of the cylinder with 120 sand paper, stuck it back together, and road the crap out of it.
It runs a little better now with a bore and new piston and rings...

Ah, the memories. My first bike at that age was a Honda 50 Cub. Not quite as suave and debonaire, but in '63 it was cutting edge. It beat tossing papers from a bicycle.
I saw a bunch of bikes of that era at a Vintage show last fall and they looked so small. That monster 305 Super Hawk was dinky...

That's a beautiful example and if you want another that needs $ and shoptime thrown at it, I have a green one in the barn.
The one I have has the cleanest tank of any derilict bike I've ever had. The motor has needs but it's all there. Just waiting for someone to love it. P.M. if intrested . I'm near Lexington ,Ky.

Wow nice bike!
My first bike was a 1970 something (the right age is in my profile) DT250 that had all the street stuff stripped from it. Its what interested me into Dual-Sports. It was a huge POS when I bought it, but it was the cheapest bike in the newspaper, I bought it when I was 17 in the early 2000's, for $500. Started first kick every time. That Yamaha autolube was a really nice feature... Something broke on the insides and the gears wouldn't shift and it ended up being stripped into a million pieces and lost in my backyard at the time. I didn't know jack shit about fixing stuff back then.... If I had it now, I could probably fix it. |
