That's Omar's KLR in the link. I got rid of mine a few months ago and got a Honda NC700X.

Omar's KLR is a good one, mine had substance abuse problems - gas and oil. I thought about rebuilding it, but I didn't like to travel on it anyway.

Right, I saw it was Omar's KLR.
I couldn't remember what the deal was with yours. Needed a top end rebuild? There was some problems with bad sleeves in some of the later engines. Also something about hot spots and cool spots and a ThermoBob fix. Mine is still running strong. KLRs, you either love 'em or hate 'em.
Now I remember you posting something about the Honda a while back.
So how's the NC out on the trail, or gravel? You like it?
Looks like a cool ride with storage space for gear and such.

My KLR burned about a quart of oil per thousand miles (2 qts between oil changes) from when I got it with 400 miles on it until amost 18K miles the day I got rid of it - even a little worse on the highway. Plus after running it just a hundred miles after an oil change, the oil turned soot black like it was getting some combustion byproducts in it - just didn't seem right. I was going to run it until it had to be rebuilt, but Walt got his rebuilt because it was using much more oil than mine and wasn't running right. His oil consumption was still no better than mine after the rebuild. The combination of oil consumption, poor gas mileage, and vibrations that numbed my right foot made it difficult to travel on. I rode Omar's bike for 225 miles Saturday: used no oil, 55.7 mpg, and tolerable vibes. I can see having a KLR again one day but not as my only bike. I would love a dual sport with a parallel twin - KLR with a Versys motor.

The NC is a street bike with street tires. I've had it on gravel a few times, and it's no KLR or DRZ but maybe a little better than my old FZ1. Not something I would ride all day on gravel for the fun of it. More dual sport oriented tires would help, but I'm not going there. It's a great street bike for most of my riding. A larger wind screen, lower pegs, and luggage will make it a decent tourer. The 2 multiday trips I've taken on it were fine.

I know mister expert, but my riding style and plans have changed since I bought the KLR back in 2009... So with change comes change!
