We're heading to our first bicycle trials competition on Saturday. It should be a ton of fun and I'm hoping I'm not too terrible.

I'm sure it will be a blast regardless of our results.

We'll be heading to Turkey Rock on Sunday for some moto trials as well.

In bicycle trials if you get a five, you have to leave the section, so you don't get to ride the whole thing.

It may be a really short day for me.

P.S. They dont stop counting dabs at three.

That depends on who's running your comp and how casual it is. I can't recall a local event ever pushing that rule, NATS were different.

I was just down at the start of the Salida bicycle trials. Looks like a good turnout. Should be some good pics and video coming tonight.

Good luck Bendejo and Charla!

Sadly the slipped disc in my back and now the dislocated knee means i have had to give up the biketrials for good... but it is the best way to train for moto stuff if you just want to get out and not bother people with noise.

One of my last rides, in Cheddar gorge. Looking at these i miss it again!!

I still have an ex Danny Mac echo frame in the garage... wonder how long it will last unbuilt!

The Salida competition was awesome. I entered the sport class and was really not ready for what was in store for me but after taking fives in all five sections I started to ride the beginner line and came up with some cleans.

I'll be riding beginner next time for sure.

It was awesome to hang out and watch the pros and experts showcase some serious skills. Big thanks to Chris for putting this on and also to my friends that took the time to come out and watch me suck.

Well the comp was a bit of a bust for me. The beginner line was quite a bit over my head so I decided to hang it up after the first loop. I could successfully navigate some of the obstacles which were bigger than what I have been practicing on, but stringing them together to get out of the section wasn't happening for me. I wound up carrying my bike over a lot of stuff and that just wasn't very fun for me.

Once I made the decision to give up on the competition I still rode around and practiced on some smaller rocks and had a bunch of fun doing that. I also talked to a lot of great people who were really fascinated by what they were seeing. There were a lot of spectators since the comp was held on the Riverfront walking path. Folks were stopping and asking a lot of questions about what was going on. I even went so far as to walk a section with one of the spectators and explain what we had to do and the scoring system. He was amazed.

One lady approached me and started asking a lot of questions. Her husband and two boys were riding in the comp and she said she had been thinking about trying it. I encouraged her to steal once of her husbands bikes and get out there and try it because it was so fun. A few minutes after we finished chatting she was out there riding around with her son. She said I had "inspired" her.

I didn't spend a lot of time taking pics because I was busy socializing but here are a few expert and pro shots. These guys are amazing.

Very nice!

I recognize 2 Hertrich boys in some of the pics. Didn't Chris Hertrich put this on?

Yep. Chris organized and Robert brought the clan up from NM so all the kids were there.

Grayson won the youth class and Micah took second.

Those two kids will be whipping our collective asses very soon in moto-trials.

Micah is already riding the Amatuer line up here but I'm not sure what line Grayson is riding. I was amazed by these kids, all they want to do is ride and they have the energy to do it.
