That's awesome! I wish I started trials so young, but I was already 15 when the first trials bike appeared in my neighborhood.

Your not the only one. I even missed the BMX thing, That is one of the best things about being a parent. Giving them things that you wished you had...when you were growing up.

I have a DVD, Joe Kid on a Stingray, that chronicles the BMX movement. I grew up ahead of all that in places where pop culture didn't reach very deep. I do remember seeing On Any Sunday in a theater awhile after it came out -- I said I lived in a backwater -- but all that SoCal or East Coast stuff was happening in a whole 'nother country.

Heading out to look at an 8 year old 20" Monty tomorrow. Can't beat the price and the guy says it's not seen any major drops, etc. and that it's been hanging out in a shed for a few years. Rear brake is leaking and needs to be replaced and I'm sure the tires are toast. I've had a GasGas and now have a TY250 but have actually never even seen a trials bicycle except on the web. Anything in particular I should be looking for wear wise, abuse wise, or otherwise?
The down tube from the pic of this bike looks to be a hell of a lot longer than the other bikes in this thread.

Pics of bike? There are 2 bike trials riders in AK, one in Anchorage. If you need some help with the brakes, I can guide you to a good link. May as well join www.observedtrials.net.
I have a few Monty's in my garage, congrats to you.

Thanks. I just got it back to the house. Frame-wise the bike looks to be pretty well treated. ![]() There's some corrosion on the headstock bolts and the bars have some spotty oxidization on them but other than that and the clapped out rear brake it looks like there's not much the bike needs. ![]() Peddles. I've got to get some peddles, toss 'er a little grease and lube the chain. That looks to me like all it needs. ![]() The seller said he bought this bike new online about 8 or 10 years ago and thinks he paid 150 bucks for it then. I have no clue what I'm looking at but that sounds a little light to me. Anybody recognize the bike and can tell what year it was made? How about a rough idea of it's value? I paid fifty bucks for it and here in Alaska there are very few of these bikes laying around. Seems like a smoking deal to me and it's less than the postage to have one sent up would be.

Ewww... just found a set of crappy traps off a roady in my wife's parts bin. I'm guessing that traps would be a horrible idea on this bike but I'll have the straps off 'em in a heartbeat and will see if I can hurt myself in the basement on this little devil.
![]() Dang... wife just hollered down the stairs. Something about plowing the driveway. Which one of these tasks should be done second?

Looks like the clapped out rear brake is going to need to be fixed. Not too much goofing off can be done on this thing without it. Any suggestions on where to get the parts? I'd be shocked if there were any local outlet for trials bike parts here and I'm assuming that very little of what's on this bike is interchangeable with MTB's or less yet w/ road bikes.
That brake repair link you mentioned, ATeam? If you have it handy I'd love to take a peek at it. Any other maintenance vid stuff you'd suggest looking at?
