No not really. Its just an automatic motorcycle.

Although the only difference between the CF moto 250 cc motorcycle and a scooter is it the frame design of having a gas tank or a floorboard in front and engine location and sometimes tire size. But other than that, their basically the same thing.


BTW, as far as this review says, the CF moto 250 is slow for a 250:

Apparently it has a top speed of 60 MPH, which is very slow for even a 250 cc scooter. But I have little to no info on this bike.

My understanding is that the CF Moto is a motorcycle looking front fork grafted to a scooter frame that's clad to resemble a motorcycle. A more appropriate question might be...world's ugliest scooter or world's crappiest looking motorcycle?

But I'm more interested in the fact that this was first imported into the US with far less than stellar reviews way back in '06. Is this Ebay one ("never registered", "new with 5 miles"). Just some really old, 5 years maybe, stock they're still trying to unload on an unsuspecting customer?

Auto cycle or scoot?

Good question.

The other end of the scale is the Derbi GP1.......



Very little storage, ESD forks with radial brakes, fully adjustable suspension, clip-ons, no step-through, alloy beam perimeter frame. Is it a scoot because of the CVT, or an auto sports 250 bike?

Sometimes the lines are blurred I think, but I'd still ride anything with 2 wheels in preference to a tintop.

honda Cb400, cb750 1978 to 82? Had a form of auto tranny. Then you can go back to auto cycle ? in 1940 something .

This has an automatic transmission... is it a scooter?



Shifty scooters are no less a scooter because you shift and just because you don't shift doesn't make it a scooter.

IMHO, a scooter has a flat floor board or at least a lower hump (like the TMAX, Burgman or Downtown) and your feet forward of your rear end. It's more about foot placement, a front fairing and frame design.

The CFMoto sounds like a money pit to me. Just my two cents.

The existing versions from China with various brand names have largely motorcycle-size wheels with double triple clamps and outboard diminutive foot boards (or even footpegs). There is no step-through cutout, and the rocking-engine & exhaust, with CVT are mainly the only modern-day motor scooter attributes. A form of body paneling hides the motor -- someone hinted that viewing the motor rocking up-and-down might be offsetting to potential owners/riders.

We need a new way to classify scooters vs. motorcycles. I think it should have to do solely with a step through frame design. If there is a space in front of the seat that is 6" or more lower than the seat height, it's a scooter.

My mom was from Scotland and called any 2 wheeled power vehicle a "Motorbike". I always loved that term. Sort of combines the fun we had on our bikes as kids with a power source to just go further to have more fun. Also, it covers all kinds of vehicles and, after all, why differentiate between them?

In Georgia, if it's over 50cc, over 2 BHP, or goes over 30MPH, it's registered as a motorcycle. IMO, who really cares. If it has two wheels and a motor, it will be fun.

three or four years ago, iowa went even simpler in licensing. if it can go over 30, it's a motorcycle. no mention of engine size or hp.

Yeah, you're right. I was just thinking about scooters vs motorcycles and that both are fun. Whether it a motorcycle or scooter, if it is a piece of junk, it won't be much fun.

To me, it's about having the motor swingarm vs frame mounted. So a Burgman 400 would be a scooter, a 650 a motorcycle.
