Going to let you guys in on probably the best idea I've ever been a part of.

Two old buddies decided to create a contest.
One that would stretch a lifetime.
Who can put together the better Yammy 2 stroke.


How will we decide who's bike is actually better?
Well, by an arbitrary point system of course.



Here's what we have so far.
Green points are available to anyone at anytime.
Yellow points are only awarded once for each contestant.
Red points are for whoever reaches that point first.


Purchase Price

• +1 point for every dollar UNDER $500
• -1 point for every dollar OVER $500

1. Purchase Price - subsection 1: If the bike was bought in baskets:

• Frame = 100 points
• Motor Top End = 100 points
• Motor Bottom End = 100 points
• Front End = 50 points
• Tank = 50 points
• Seat = 25 points
• Wiring harness = 25 points
• Wheels = 25 points each
• Carburetors = 25 points each

Mods:

1. Modifying a stock part = 35 points
2. Installing a custom part = 50 points
3. Frame cutting = 40 points

New Parts

1. Frame = 100 points
2. Motor Top End = 100 points
3. Motor Bottom End = 100 points
4. Front End = 50 points
5. Tank = 50 points
6. Seat = 25 points
7. Wiring harness = 25 points
8. Wheels = 25 points each
9. Carburetors = 25 points each
10. Tires = 50 points each
11. Other (not listed) = 10 points
    

Superficial: For a paint job to be awarded points, it must remain for a period of 3 months.

• Tank = 100 points
  
• Side Covers = 50 points
• Fender(s) = 25 each
• Powdercoating = 50 points an item.
  
• chrome = fuck chrome.
  

Firsts:

1. First Bike Started = 150 points
2. First to 200 miles = 300 points
3. First horn beep = 15 points
4. Bike Road Legal Registered, Insured and Inspected. = 100 points
5. 45 second unassisted idle = 100 points
   
6. Wheelie Documentation = 250 points
7. Speeding Ticket = 69 Points
8. Documented Burnout: Dirt = 25 points / Pavement = 35 points
   

Things that will continually be bested

• highest speed = 100 points
• best mpg = 25 points
• worst mpg = 25 points
• brake distance = 75 points
• lightest bike = 100 points
• rattiest (I think ratty is going to be a point heavy category for awhile) = 4 points
• longest wheelie = 100 points

TAXES
in order to try and keep this contest, well competitive
and not just a race to empty wallets.

Used parts = +1 point for every dollar under $100
New Parts = -1 point for every dollar over $100

And what do the points mean?
At the end of every calendar year, points will be evaluated and the individual with the LOWEST number of points has to buy the motoGP video pass for the upcoming season. We are also working out the possibility of a trophy in which the winner will hold in his possession for the entire year (if anyone has a trophy with a motorcycle on it and would like to donate it, please inquire within)

That's right folks. This is just the initial phase of this lifelong contest.
Each year we hope to surmise completely moronic ways to best each other.

Now, while we have wasted too much time on this already -
we still haven't got all the bugs worked out of our system.
At this stage I'd like you to kindly offer suggestions for
other ways to score points,
point out any loopholes we may have created,
and yell at us and tell us to hurry up and shit.

I'm not sure that ANY two stroke I've ever owned has been able to do that.

Both of us know nothing about 2-strokes. Kind of a mutual handicap.
I wanted and RD for awhile, but we thought an R5 would be cheaper
and better for a couple reasons.

R5's are from 1972 and earlier.
In NY you can register a 1972 and older bikewith just a bill of sale.
So probably cheaper.

Also, we figured an R5 has more potential to be performance modified.

There are no rules against using an RD top end, even from a 400.

So really, any R5 or RD would be acceptable.


What does an RD250 have in common with the rest of the heard?
Is it just top end differences? Same Carbs, etc??
Seen a couple cheapies.

I can't believe it when I look at the numbers, and still hear people say the h1 is a contemporary of the RDs.
I'd love to have an h1 for awhile, but it doesn't seem like a bike I'd want to keep.
An R5, or RD on the other hand....
They've got something special.


Anyway, just thought of brake distance and added it to the list.
We should probably add a category; where things that will be continuously beaten should be.

performance mod/tuning that actually hurts performance -100


oh and a dirt burnout is significantly easier than a street burnout why more points for dirt?

oh and the real test would be first one to do 200 miles on it. that will put all factors into play...

rd has 6 speed tranny, reed/cylinder/head/pipe differences. r5 has cooler engine covers. they mix and match though. i would assume the rd cases have bigger transfer ports, but it's been a while since i looked at the 2 together. i always did rd250/350/400 - i had r5's and ds7 but never tinkered with them much.

someone correct me here - it's been awhile since i did an rd. rd has carbs with sync ports (slides have 'dots' in them) (or was it the other way around?) either way, if you hafta use stock carbs the black ones (right?) with the screws on the slide sides are the neatest.

the rd350 are the fastest overall . the rd250 feels faster since it spools up quicker, but it runs outta juice way early. the 400 is more torquey.

I was kinda thinking you should get points for blowing up pistons
Oh shit, now we've got to create a rebuild category.
I think of rebuilding shit as a pro rather than a con so, I'm going to give points for anything that falls into this section

• top end = 100 points
• bottom end = 250 points
• forks = 100 points

Sound fair?


Also added the first to 200 mile test. The first one here will receive 300 points.

will jive with any old RD 250/350/400

However, I would find it more appealing if huge points were awarded for the LOWEST COST bike winning any performance catagories. The guy who buys 2 each 1 5/8" ubends, some 1 1/4" x .125 steel strap, 2 feet of 1" o.d. .049 wall tubing, and beats his own pipes out of 20 gauge should make more points than a guy that buys a set of Denco's or such. ... just sayin'
