After!
Now I just need some decent tires. Luckily, there is a huge selection for adventure bikes anymore.

O K, everyone, as of now I declare this project complete, done and ready. Eight months and about $1200 latter I have a bike ready for a Prudhoe Bay trip. For a complete explanation of how this bike came to be the project, please check out the first two or three pages of this thread. VX is the original model of this bike, which has no meaning, I changed it to VXA with a meaning, { Very Xciting Adventure }. These first pics is the bike when I started.

This poor machine hadn't run in about 10 years, It had a lot of missing and broken parts, we were hoping to have it ready to go for about a $1000. Would have about made it, but I had to also replace the gas tank, almost $200 there.

One of my neighbors told me when I started, he wouldn't give me $10 for it, now he wants to buy it. I told him he couldn't afford it.

I did more to this machine than I figured on at the start, but it just seemed to come together.

One of the first items replaced were the carbs, probably the worst condition of carbs I have ever seen. Other than that, no problem, put on another set of carbs and It started right up and it runs great.

This has been a fun project, next winter I may have to do another project like this one. In a couple weeks there will be some ADV stickers on it. They should make it run even better. OK M@g, Unc, Get with the program. Lets keep this thread going.

Congrats on the build!
![]() I'd like to add, don't overload the front fender rack as bad things can happen.

Thanks a lot Joe. I appreciate your comment on the front fender rack, It wont get anything more than a sleeping bag or maybe groceries for the day. It is very solid, but like you say, bad things can happen. I will start posting some Tiger pics once I finish the XR project I have started. Hoping to have that finished by late Jan or early Feb. Then its on to the Tiger. I have the plan all mapped out, just have to do it. Really both bikes are mapped out. And the Uly is now at El Dorado Cycles waiting to find a new home so a Tiger 800 can join my wife. She rode it today and declared that she wanted it.
