Other than greener grass theory, I fail to see the logic on this one. At worst he spends his final few years as DH, and probably a darn good one too.

I am liking Cherington's decisions more and more.
Somewhat agree & I like Cano, but some thoughts;

Cano is a streaky hitter - granted usually .300 BA, but the past 2 seasons really hasn't done well with men on base, with games on the line.

A great 2nd basemen, maybe the best in the AL.

Yankees might already have someone in the minors that they think can replace him @ 2nd.

2nd base isn't the toughest position to play.

I read Yanks offered - 7 yrs $170., thus more $ per yr.

Lastly, Cano could have been a Yank for life. There aren't too many Dominicans in Seattle - me thinks. After career where would he have a chance to make $, as an ex Yank or an ex Mariner?

Good Luck Robbie

Ummm... You're not remembering correctly...

He's a career .282 hitter with risp and a .302 hitter in late, close games.

Last year he hit .357 with risp and .313 late and close. And a ridiculous .412 with 2 outs and risp.

Year before wasn't as good, but not bad. at .268 risp and .286 late and close.

2nd base is a premium position, especially when it comes with a good bat. And the Yankees don't have promising prospects at 2nd ready to go. Or at all really...

I'm just talking about fielding - I think 2nd is the easiest position in the infield. - He is great though.

Not sure about the minors - What are u doing in '14? How's ur bat?

And Jay Z did a fantastic job - Um not

They were giving him 9yr with 225mil

How much is guaranteed?

There's very few that would agree with you regarding second being the easiest infield position. They put statutes, dh, and wanted up catchers at first for a reason.

Jay z did a great job. It's 10 yrs, 240M. Like all baseball contracts, short of suspension, it's all guaranteed baby.

Yeah, I don't know Rhino...the Yankees have not taken very good care of their farm system. I also think there are more guys who can play center field well, than second base. Obviously, if you are a plodder you will not see time in CF...but if you can't move your arse in a hurry you won't be at second base either. That is a big gap to cover, quickly.

Congrats on the big hit....are you telling us you won the Little League World Series? That is very cool if you did. Even that your team made it to the tournament, is huge.

And now the Yankees have Beltran. So they have like 27 outfielders. But nobody signed at 2b, 3b is a question mark, and 2 starting pitchers. Interesting decisions this off season...

If you remember, Lucchino tried this recently...in all his wisdom. It worked out just awful. When they let the baseball guys make the decisions, what seemed like a cob job team won the world series....one that no one in their right mind would have predicted to win it. Personally, I want the Yankees to be good, it makes the rivalry all the more fun. But I agree with you....all hitters and no workers is almost certainly systematic failure.

I am having a brain cramp on the skinny second baseman you had a few years ago...triple triple guy.....that was a fun crew to watch. And I still think Jeter is the classiest guy in the game. I am scratching my head with these decisions they are making. Heck, I could be wrong and they win the series with these guys....but it is hard to understand at the moment.

Hah, just came to me Soriano....that is what they need.

He's going to appeal that, too. I'm betting he never plays another game in the Majors.

As a Yankees fan, this works out well. And I think arod was juicing like a one balled tour de France winner. But that suspension is a load of crap; how's this fly with the collective bargaining agreement?
