Watch this. I'm gonna be the first guy banned for fondling a baked good.

Nice to hear you are upholding the tradition of being a gracious host to ADV women rider's. I've ridden for 38 years and appreciate the women who take on the challenge of learning to ride and develop the skills to be a competent rider.

Young or seasoned riders I admire them all, I think their more vibrant and interesting when you share the passion of 2-wheels as you travel feeling the wind, scents and land as it passes by.

Nice countryside you have their looks dry, vancouver gets 3-5 feet of rain and tofino gets 16-18 ft of rain per year with Barkley Sound watersheds 22 ft hence the size of the trees in the West Coast Rain forest.

Best wish's from Vancouver for safe riding.

Must I remind you of the dangers of object fixation?
Crashing into a cookie may not be that bad, but if your mind is in the gutter.....

Day 7: April 10, 2011 - cont'd

From Zion we headed over to Grafton, the site of a pioneer settlement and also where some scenes from the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were filmed. The road to get there was still a bit muddy from the previous days' rains. It was OK if I stayed in the dry ruts but really slippery otherwise and the mud stuck to everything. Another new technique for me to learn .

First we visited the cemetery which held some graphic examples of the dangers of pioneer life.

Then we headed over to the town where the movie scenes had been filmed.

It was time to head home, it had been a glorious day

Hey, wait for me!

Time to go.

I've spent a fabulous three days with the Ratman. We've shared our life stories, made cookies, talked about our dreams and plans for the future, danced in the kitchen before breakfast, played with produce in the supermarket, messed with tourists, rode motorbikes and helped each other understand and deal with some of the hard things that have happened to us. Did we fall in love? Well, no, but Rat will always hold a very special place in my heart and I feel I've made a life-long friend. I hope he feels the same way.
The Rat is a very special guy full of romance and optimism. I wish him great good luck in finding the woman of his dreams. She'll be fortunate to have him.

Now I have to head for home and I have 5 and a half days to get there. My plan is to go to Vegas on Monday then Death Valley on Tuesday, stay over night and maybe ride Titus Canyon on Wednesday then slab it for home. Yes, I'm still going to amuse you at my expense

Hang on! There's still plenty of adventure left! Actually some interesting things are about to happen

Day 8: April 11, 2011

Part one of the adventure is over, I've made a great friend in Rat and I've fallen in love with his dogs, Maggie and Bird (especially Maggie, she adopted me from the moment I got there). Now I'm off on the rest of the adventure!
As usual I hit the road at the break of 10 It's a low pressure day, Las Vegas isn't too far down the road. Rat gives me directions back to the highway by way of Gunlock State Park and I'm going to drive through the Valley of Fire as well.
This is motorcycle travel though so you know things are not going to go as planned
About 20 minutes down the road, without any warning at all, I come to a barrier across the pavement with a "Road Closed" sign. WTF? Crews are working on a bridge ahead. I spy a dirt track off to the left with a little "detour" sign but I have to say it looks a little dicey. This is what I find.

It doesn't look like much in the picture but the stream is about 20 ft across and it's running fast. The bottom is made up of round river rock. While I'm trying to make up my mind to take a chance and cross it a truck comes along and goes through it - the water comes up over the bumper! In my mind all I can see is my fully laden bike laying underwater like a big goldfish. I chicken out and head back. OK, I'm not ALL about amusing you!

The road back to Saint George

Soon I'm back on the highway heading to the Valley of Fire.

There's a couple of Harleys parked by the sign for the park and I strike up a conversation with the riders. It turns out they're from Winnipeg, Manitoba and the one fellow's parents live in Victoria!?! They're pipers with the Winnipeg Police Pipe Band in Las Vegas for a military tattoo. Awesome!
They've rented the Harleys for a day of sight-seeing. We chat some more and decide to ride together through the park.

Stuart and Warren. At least Stuart's HD is the right colour

We stop for lunch at Moapa and they ask me where I'm staying in Vegas. Since I have no plans they tell me to come stay at the hotel where they and the band are. Whoo hoo! I have a blind date with an entire pipe band!

This has been a wonderful read, wow. I enjoyed every picture and your log book needs to be a magazine article at a minimum. Thanks for sharing your blind date and your big ride.
