more hockey.

I attended my first ever hockey game last nacht. The event was the annual battle of the cadets of West Point, versus Canada's version of West Point, their very own RMC. As a former fore checker myself, back in the days of my rocky tenure as Life President of the New England Chapter of Advrider, I felt right at home. Somehow, the corps of Cadets keeps getting younger every year.

kind of psychic/cryptic to have seen this on the same night Coach K would collapse courtside as he did yestahday. The BB court shares the same building as the ice rink, they must have been short on money that year.

even before the puck was dropped tension was thick, it was clear this was serious business and that the Canadians had not made this trip for Hot Dogs and Apple pie. Hockey was their game and they had come all this way to prove it, and they weren't in the mood to talk about it.

given the names of some of the Canadian players, I don't suppose I'd be very talkative myself. anyone heard any packer jokes?

unlike Army football where they parachute onto the field after warm-ups, Army just showed off some new troop carriers they've developed for when George Bush invades the eskimos to install democracy and halt any terrorist ideas they might have been considering. they're next.

Remember when Don Rickles used to call everybody a hockey puck? Man, that really cracked me up.

as soon as the puck was dropped it became clear what the C in RMC stood for. Cheaters. Everytime you looked over the Canadians were sneaking extra players out onto the ice seeking an advantage to go along with their rampant hooking, tripping and high sticking.

Hate to be the driver on that troop transport... get harpooned by the eskimos

the "real mean cheaters" as I dubbed them, even tried using multiple pucks in a pathetic attempt at cheating to "pierce" our beloved Department of Defense, but Rumsfeld had predicted this, and we were prepared.

as were the refs. this sight would become common as the game unfolded. Canadian cheaters were continually apprehended and escorted off the ice to a special holding area known as the penalty box where the cheater would have to sit and reflect on his cheating ways whilst his team was forced to play short handed, which they probably didn't mind as they were already playing under handed.

they didn't seem to mind their little time out time, as the punishment Army was handing out across the ice was brutal, and the canadians were learning real quick that hockey was best left to the US Army, not a bunch of Canadians.

at least the RMC band came to play, and they kept the place hopping all night with lots of catchy ways of chanting "RMC RMC" behind their thundering drum corps.

but despite the Canadian's catchy music the only dancing on the ice was being done by Army as they scored at will and celebrated each goal with group hugs and high fives.
