Yep, we spent over $1k. Two entries, i think we did 3 nites, wife/kid/me. Sounds expensive but WOW it was such a cool event and the organization was awesome (the one guy who bitched and moaned on D37 site(?) about the bike drop-off & pick-up was out of line).
If we can do it again we'd also stay for Sunday nite, it was too rushed Sunday PM to make the boat. |

Perhaps contacting the Catalina fire Dept may be informative.
They were the org that carried the ball to the goal or the Catalina newspaper The politics were tough to overcome, there was a lot of resistance

How did Vinnie screw up? I had heard some bits about a lawsuit, but I honestly don't know any details. I thought everyone was happy and the Island made a ton of dough?

Friends living on the island commented last night how dead the island was last weekend.
Island environazis not happy, but the City of Avalon was really happy and the race is on City land. Tons of local politics going on. The City of Avalon seems to think that they need to put the race on, not an outside promoter. Heard that $50,000.00 will be paid out in the Pro race to try to get more of them to come over.

you cant keep everyone happy.... but C'mon! this is once a year. its not like this is going to be a monthly thing over there. Its not like there are building a Santa Cruz style boardwalk with a Ferris wheel on the waterfront....
its cant be much worse than the beer swilling weekend yacht clubbers dumping Diesel fumes all through downtown.

There is more to it. D-37 has limited itself to 6 Grand Prix per year aka: "The Big Six Series". The Big Six operates as as a unique group within D-37 org. Last year the Catalina GP was a special exception and was a non-point paying D-37 GP.
Anyone want to point out Vinnie's link to the Big Six?? With Vinnie involved last year it was ok to discuss, with Vinnie out, it goes the way of USDR, Adalanto GP and the Race Around the Lake GP.
