The build so far

About my turn to finally post some photos. I have been working on this bike since last October and having fun doing so despite not putting many miles on it. The photos below show the following mods:

Desmog
Golan Fuel filter
Rear fender lift strap
HDB hand guards
hard parts folding levers
hard parts hand warmers
dual compound grips open end version
Pro-taper Woods high bend
hard parts orange bling in various places
13/50 gearing with orange chain and orange rear sprocket
Scott's stabilizer
Throttle cable guide
Fuel sock in tank
new fork and shock springs with re-valving by Slavens Racing
lower shock joint boot
Hard parts front and rear rotor guards
Hard parts fork bleeders
Baja Designs Squadron LED insert
ignition key eliminator
Powerlet - not shown on pictures
Sicass switch for signals, headlight and horn (needed to create clearance for clutch lever)
Hard parts extra tall seat (it is firm)
hard parts case saver
front axle pull
XC-W re-map to ECU

I am probably missing something but . . . there will always be more.

Checked valves today at 2205 miles. I measured .005 intake / .006 exhaust = perfect in my book. Easy to do as well with the design of the valve cover.

All seems to be good.

Checked my valves recently at 15 hrs and all but one intake valve clearance was out of spec (greater than upper limit by 0.03mm).....

Had the 2013 unrestricted map file successfully installed into my bike during the week with no issues. Will test ride this weekend to confirm the map switch works.....

If the EXC ECU's are 'fixed', how is it possible to load the unrestricted map file? Or is this just more anti-EXC banter.... :)

I have a buddy that has a EXC and I feell bad for him. I quit poking on that a bit ago to him. He has spent hours and hours on the phone with KTM and finally his optons were the JD tuner or a XCW ECU. While the JD supposedly works he heard that it resets evry time the bike starts and the JD tuner just rewrites every time. That discouraged him so he opted for the XCW and within in 10 minutes he was happy.

Measured the width of the gas tank, from the widest section of the wing to the other wing: 20 1/4"

I understand..... sometimes I wonder myself if the XCW would have been the better choice for what I want.... no turning back now!

the poor guy had his ECU remapped by the dealer twice and piad for it both times then read on here about it autoresetting and the third time he insisted to watch theprocess and did begining to end he saw them load the map and then they tested it it worked , then he had them reset the bike and then check the map and sure enough it was reset back to the original. His dealer was unaware of this and called and verified this to be true. The refunded both remap's to him and then that is when the rest of the research started for him.

It is not. However, you can buy a dimmer that will solve the problem. I need to install the dimmer.

KTM 500 EXC-F 2012 Oil Cooler

Hey Guys,

I'm Rob from the netherlands, me and my team are prepping 2 2012 500's for Heroes Legend, we leave in 71 days!

Does anyone know the Twin Air Oil Cooler will fit the bike?

Here are some pictures from our rebuild bike, it's almost finished now and we will test drive it in a few weeks!

Our own hand made engine quard, with toolbox and 1700cc water compartment, soon it will go in production for a reasonable price..

Our Front cowling, fit's the 20 liter Acerbis tank perfect, will also go in production soon...

Now we are changing the suspension, also an extra rear tank is being made at the moment, it's will look real nice and carry's another 5 liters.

The Desert Daltons

Checkout our team : www.desertdaltons.nl

You can also find us on Facebook & Twitter....

That Buggy, we build it ourselfs also..it's got 225Hp and 440Nm now, could go over 300Hp but we want to make it
to the finish line also...

Anyway, I'm still thinking about that oil cooler, the engine quard does take some windblow away from that crankcase, on the
other hand, the original engine quard does that too..
