Decided to try and desmog my stuff in a few steps to see what had the biggest bang (and because I didn't have the right crows foot wrench at the time to get to the SAS)
With the stock ECU and the little noise screen in, there was little back firing but it's more muffled and a lot less noticeable / annoying. Removing the charcoal canister (without touching the Evap solenoid) didn't do anything. When I removed the silencer from the muffler, it actually seemed to increase the back firing and was obviously more noticeable. Taking the SAS out of the equation didn't help at all. Then had my ECU remapped and went for another spin. Again, nothing if not worse when backing off of the throttle - aggressively. But the biggest win? Shutting down that Evap solenoid. If anything that would seem to have cured the situation. Regardless, removing the charcoal canister, the SAS, the Evap solenoid (and air intake to the cylinder head) and finally remapping... Woo hoo. I'm riding it on the street these days (if you see a rider in BMW gear in Sunny CA...) ...and trying to keep my license. I can so see how this would get someone pulled over. Multiple times. For cities, you're not going to need to get past 100 and you have so many gates, err lights, and you can hook up really easy with some dual sport tires. Soooo many people are waving and motioning me to pop a wheelie... Quote:

End cap screen
[QUOTE=boostracer;20825317]Sorry if this has already been answered but what exactly is the end cap screen on the stock muffler? I have an FMF installed on my 2012 and am currently using the stock muffler on my 2013 500EXC.
1. Is is only to reduce noise? 2. Is it part of the spark arrestor? I have mine removed but carry it with me just in case it becomes an issue. At Hollister Hills off road riding area in Hollister, CA, they used to put a probe into the end of your muffler to see if you have a spark arrestor. I'm not sure I have one with the end cap screen removed. Any help on this is appreciated.

Corbin Seat
For those of you who like Corbin Seats, my 2013 500EXC is there right now. I loaned them my bike so they can create a mold and then be able to offer a wide and comfortable seat for the 500EXC.
I had a custom one done at Corbin a few months ago and it really works great for me. Corbin uses their own custom foam that is more dense than other foam I have tried. Here is what my custom Corbin looks like on my 2012 500EXC and the mold they are creating will look very similiar. I love my Acerbis 5.3 gallon fuel tank. It is very sturdy and fits great with my KTM radiator guards. It is only slightly wider than the stock setup:

1000x. Corbin has screwed me over for the last time. Cheap materials, leaky seams, very hard foam, and usually a VERY HEAVY seat. If you ride in and get a custom seat you have a chance of getting what you want before you pay them. But after, forgetaboudit.

I've got a Seat Concepts seat, and I'm loving it.

I have found through the years that seats are a very personal preference item. For some reason I like the very dense and firm foam of Corbin. Other seats I have tried with softer foam are too soft for me.
Sorry to hear some have had a bad experience with Corbin and I'm sure what has been reported here is accurate. That would drive me away as well but I have had a good experience through the years with them but I have always done the "drive in" to get seats made so I always know what I'm getting before I leave. The seat cover they made for me a few months ago, that I picked out, turned out to be too slippery so they are replacing it with a non slip material for "no charge". Does any other seat manufacturer have the same dense and firm foam as Corbin? That is the main reason I have stayed with them. My riding buddy has tried their seats and also doesn't like how firm they are so I understand the personal preference people have regarding seats. The Corbin seat base is very heavy but the first custom 500EXC seat they made for me used the stock base. I think the Corbin base, even though it is very heavy, provides a firmer base for the wide seat. To be fair, I have only tried one other brand of seat other than Corbin. Just my 2 cents.

New owner...
I am about to dive into some mods to my 13 500EXC including a full titanium FMF system. Forgive me if it has been mentioned before but can this exhaust be used straight out if the box without fooling with the FI? It has the XCW map installed by the previous owner and it is desmogged.
I runs very well now with no fueling issues/popping/flame outs...
