4 gallon fuel tank coming from Safari

Just got a return e-mail from Veronica of Safari (Aqualine) in Australia.

She says: "We are doing tanks for the 2012 KTM EXC500: 12L in the next month or so and a 15L mid year. There will be information closer to the release on the web site."

12L = 3.17 Gallons
15L = 3.96 Gallons

So it looks like a 4 gallon fuel tank is coming. Maybe we can get our fellow inmates from Australia to ask Aqualine to speed up the 15L fuel tank.

Their gas tanks are expensive but are the best quality I have seen.

Until a 4 gallon fuel tank is available, I will have to get a Promoto Billet Rack and attached a 1.7 gallon Rotopax to it for any long rides.

If you want to let Aqualine know you also want a 4 gallon fuel tank, let them know at: info@rvaqualine.com

Thanks for the pic. I wish there were some additional shots from different angles. The 6.6 gallon Acerbis tank for the XR650R was a beast. It was very wide. I wonder how wide this one is? Guess we won't know until someone puts it on a bike.

I'm still going to wait for a 4 gallon tank. Any shots of the 3.5 gallon fuel tank from KTM mounted on a 500EXC? The last time I checked, it is available but only in orange. I like the translucent white so I can always know how much fuel I have left.

For those of you who have installed on, can you see the gas line in the orange KTM 3.5 gallon tank?

How difficult or tricky is it to take the fuel pump off the original tank and reinstall it on the KTM 3.5 gallon fuel tank? I think I remember reading something about the holes not aligning properly on some of the first ones shipped.

jd 6x tuner

hey ktmers
i installed the jd tuner wow its a great product
low to mid is way better it pulls harder all the way through

there are 6 zones the modes have an adjustment range from light #1 to #8 in 1/2 step increments there are 16 steps for each mode
GREEN =Needle clip position 1/8 to 1/4 throttle
YELLOW = needle taper 3/8 to 5/8 throttle
RED = Main jet 3/4 to full throttle
GREEN/BLUE = Piolot jet and fuel screw setting for idle mixture
YELLOW/BLUE=the yellow /blue mode will alter the starting transition of the yellow mode the adjustment will allow richer or leaner transitions to start earlier or later
RED/Blue = the red /blue mode will alter the rate of fuel flow on rapid acceleration like a accelerator pump circuit

GREEN stock setting #3 jd setting #4
YELLOW stock setting #3 jd setting #5
RED stock setting #3 jd setting #4
GREEN/BLUE stock setting #3 jd setting 3/4
YELLOW/BLUE stock setting #3 jd setting 4/5
RED/BLUE stock setting #3 jd setting 4/5

i installed mine in airbox i emailed james dean to recommend what settings to experment with he suggested the red/blue settings i turned mine down from 4/5 to 4 it has a snappier feel
i brought her in to check valves and replace updated fuel filter
i have had zero problems with this bike i love it

frame change for 2013??

Thanks Evel!

so on the last page there was some discussion as to the 2013 changing plastic and frame designs.

i looked around and the only mention of it that i could find was this article.

http://motocrossactionmag.com/KTM/Ne...TO-R-8681.aspx

this article states that the 2013 450 SXF wil recieve frame changes to allow for new motor, (the EXC/XC-W motor in 2012)??? is that the old 2011 exc motor design?

KTM 3.5 gal tank

The KTM 3.5gal tank is easy to fit 20 minutes max fuel pump slips straight in and everything lines up well . Do all the fitting on the bench then drop tank back on bike. You can see the fuel level quite well in reasonable light.Only modification was to the B&B Radiator guards,

I think there must be some confusion in the industry about which models are going to get up dates. The SXF is a linked system while the EXC is a PDS. These dictate different frames. I'm not sure if a new SXF "Homologation Rule Based Frame" ( What ever that means?) can be used for a PDS shock due to geometry. If it can it would make common $en$e for KTM to streamline production and use this newer frame in both the SXF and the EXC line but it's just a guess. Looking at both the newer 450SXF Factory Edition and a 500exc side by side I don't think it's possible for the PDS to work in the SXF "HRBF" and keep the rates as invisioned for the EXC. Note the new 450SXF uses the same basic motor as the 450 and 500EXC

Your pic before this one is of the dual cam motor, Dungeys is a single cam motor, the Factory Edition is also the new single cam motor, the single cam is the direction they are taking

I think you have the newer up coming version, same as the EXC enduro motors. Check out KTM's web site and look at the current non-Factory Ed 450 SXF .

Anybody in the CA bay area have one of these yet? Would like to take a couple of measurements off a bike that would only require removing the handlebar perches.
