Highway 1 Suggestions?

Hi my name is Krys and im 20 years of age. Anywho i jus put together a 1995 BMW GS with my father whom owns a BMW motorcycle shop. Ive always been eager to travel and my time is coming near. Sometime between May and July id like to explore the West Coast starting from about San luis Obispo and head North. Any suggestions for sights to see or any specific routes?. Im planning to camp out for a night along the way obviously by the coast. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Or if anyone is interested to join please do. Thanks

North or South

When the road opens up. Talked to lownslo? from Cambria yesterday and the road is supposedly still closed above Ragged Point. Till when?
You still can drop in from Hunter Leggett (Naci-Fergussen Rd.)tho to go north.

This is a Killer ride under the right conditions.

I prefer the ride going southbound due to the spectacular views.

Up the coast and down the Sierras. Best of both worlds.

From Fort Bragg, take Hwy 1 to connect to Leggett. Twisty heaven.

We were camping down at Kirk Creek a week ago and the campground
host showed us an aerial photo of the slide between Gorda and Ragged
Point. That sucker is HUGE.

We talked to a longtime local guy who lives up on Los Burros Rd we've
known for years and he told us that CALTRANS recently had a hearing
with the local residents down there regarding a timeline and operating
plan to clear the road.

As of then he said CALTRANS had no established plan in place to address
it. Apparently there are environmental groups who are threatening
legal action against CALTRANS if they begin pushing the dirt/debris
downslope and into the ocean. This would mean hauling the slide material
out truckload by truckload down the coast to a place it can be disposed of.

The slide is going to need to be dug out from the top down as it's so large
and unstable.

It's looking like HWY 1 is going to closed down there for a quite a while.

This is an attempt. Hopefully this comes out right.

This would get you onto a few good bits. If you have a Garmin GPS I can send you a more complete route as I have ridden a LOT of california and mapping that crap on google is a PITA

feck. OK...well...I fixed it here.

Tin Barn/Kings Ridge is a neat little 1.5 lane country GS road; rough, twisty. Usually has cows, and the locals tend to drive in the middle of the lane. Other than that, its a hoot. If you take Ft. Ross out of there, its a fun route. I added Ross becuse its a neat little historic fort.

I would sugguest River Rd --> Westside Rd --> Dry Creek Rd --> Skaggs Springs RD --> Hwy 1

Its a local favorite, but its out of most peoples way. Skaggs is well....here . Just watch out for PoPo's on the weekends

Again, I can do better with a my Garmin map software.
