The little dipper

Berriow Bridge over the Lynher, mentioned by Norden (no, not Denis Norden) in 1584, repaired in 1640.

Bridge clubhouse

Yeolmbridge on the River Attery not only has ribbed arches, great refuges and fine cutwaters but also its own clubhouse. Neat.

Salty margaritas and the Rio Grande

Grazing, timber, garden and stream. Quite near the Lynher in winter.

Higher Newbridge - peek-a-boo

Then, dear of him, Henderson tells us the new bridge story,

“When John Leland came to Cornwall from Holsworthy in 1539, to make his survey, he wrote: ‘Or ever I cam to Lanstoun by a mile I passed over a bridge of stone having three arches and a smaul caullid New Bridge . . .’ This New Bridge was of the making of the Abbates of Tavestock ‘and mainteinyd by them for Tavestoke Abbey had fair possessions there aboute’ [i.e. Werrington Park].

There are two two ‘New Bridges’ over the Tamar and this is usually called the Higher by way of distinction.

Eventually I parked in the ford and took some snaps. Even though I was very low on fuel I left the engine running because I never have fancied underwater kick-starting. After a while a chap stopped his Landrover on the bridge and asked if all was well. Thanked and reassured he drove on. The engine stopped. It can seem pretty eerie up there in the late afternoon.

Anyone remember this old movie?

In the movie, during a dog fight sequence, the bi-planes fly under a bridge....

Well...... here's the bridge.

[Sorry it's a bit far away. This was as close as I could get with the bike.]
