Wow. Very cool bridge. Do you know how old it is? It looks like it's pretty old. Oh, and about your English; your English is pretty good. Since most of the people on this list don't speak German (Deutsch) we're glad you can speak English at all.

Sehr gut. Ich spreche ein bischen (hoch) Deutsch.

Well,
the bridge was build in 1778 and it was damaged in the years of ww2, because of french tanks that have driven over it.

In the year 1955 then it was build totaly new with the old drawings.

In 1976 the roof was build new with wood from canada.

At the post above i made a mistake, its only driveable with 3 tons.

The length is about 40m, the weight about 129 tons.

one more pic:

Another first post...the world famous "Unmaintained Bridge" in Northern Ontario, with predictable results!
Perhaps some of the wood was taken as noted for the preceding wooden bridge in the Black Forest!

Last Saturday night (July 28, 2007) many northern Michigan communities celebrated the 50th anniversary of the five-mile-long Mackinac Bridge connecting Michigan's upper & lower peninsulas.

I had just completed the "Six Days of Michigan" event, and just happened to be in the vicinity of the bridge at this opportune time.

Waiting for the fireworks to begin:

Looking from St. Ignace (UP) toward Mackinac City (LP):
