Screen Protectors

For those of you new to Touch Screen GPS's, I highly recommend a CLEAR Screen Protector. I don't use the Anti-glare screen protectors (including those that come with the AMPS Mount) because they cut down on light transmission in BOTH directions. That means you get a less bright screen when the backlight is on high and you get a less bright screen outdoors in the bright sunlight.

The Montana screen is awesome in the sunlight because it reflects a lot of light from the display's surface. With a clear screen protector you don't reduce any of the light that makes the screen so viewable outdoors. Yes it does have glare but look back in this thread and you will find a video showing the Montana screen with and without the anti-glare film. I prefer a little glare over a dimmer screen. Although the Montana with the anti-glare film is just as bright as a zumo 660 without it.

I've been using touch screen GPS's in the dirt now for several years and the best product I've found is the Zagg invisibleShield. It is not cheap but it has a lifetime warranty and I can attest to their service as I've replaced a few (you send back the damaged protector and pay for return post). If you have to send in your device for service, just remove the protector and request a replacement (same drill as for a damaged one). It takes a lot to damage the invisibleShield protector.

Now here's the not so good news - ZAGG doesn't yet have a Montana specific screen protector. What did I do? I ordered one for a zumo 660 and used the Garmin anti-glare protector as a template to trim it to the right size for the Montana. Use a sharp pair of scissors and you'll have no problems trimming the two sides needed.

Cheers,

You only need the Screen protector ($15). I have always purchased direct from ZAGG - same price. None the less, wherever you buy, make sure to register your product at ZAGG or no warranty.

good proactive advice, screen protector ordered. I've been using only lens cleaner and soft cloth, but it's just a matter of time as each touch of a dusty screen begins to etch and scratch.

Anyone having issues with Track Manager and Tracks showing on the map?

I have been loading a variety of tracks into the Montana and exercising the Track Manager. It was working just fine until v2.50. Now if I load more than one track to Show on Map, the last track I load is the only one that shows.

All of the installed tracks show in Where To->Tracks and can be navigated to.

Cheers,

I'm still on version 2.30 and only 1 track (of 3) is shown on the map at a time, even though I've set all 3 to show on the map. I set them to different colors, so I can tell right away what's showing or not.

On a related note, I'm still on 2.30 because when I try to update to 2.50, I get a file corrupted message after the file download. Tried it a dozen or so times over the last 3 days...

I'm using a Mac... and have the latest software - Garmin WebUpdater 2.0.6.app . . corrected

I'm thinking about putting the gcd file on the Montana and letting it do the update from the file, but I don't want to get half done and have it fail

All my "show on map" tracks (~15) are displaying correctly running v2.5. Try loading the tracks via \garmin\GPX directory method and see if that makes a difference.

Are you saying just copy the gpx track files into that directory?

Any special naming required?

Cheers,
I found that the tracks default to "hide on map". I have to go to the track manager and open each track I want to display on the map and set it to "show on map". Kind of tedious when you have a bunch of tracks installed. It would be nice if there was a show/hide all tracks button.
