Yes, relative to the file size of a waypoint or a short track 3k to 5k points is large. I only meant relative to the limit of 10k 3k is small. Its not the speed i am having an issue with, its the random failures. Some transfers of larger files work but that is not the norm. Small files and waypoints usually work but not always. Perhaps this is an issue with one of our GPS though it seems from the site i referenced earlier it is a know issue they have not resolved. I asked here hoping to find out if this is something other have experienced and just not posted about or if it was just me.
Thanks for the feed back guys i think ill see if Garmin gets anywhere on this, my buddy has been emailing with them the last couple of days but so far its at the do you it turned on stage of questions...

It's rare i have a 4k file work. Maybe i do have some hardware failing.. Damn it.
I wish there was a way to test for sure and decide which unit it is.....

Not sure how big this track file is but it was recorded last weekend on my Montana, and is 271 kms at auto setting, and it's going to take 8 minutes to do. It's been 4 already, and the transfer's at 52%.

Edit. File was 549K, and took 8 minutes.

My transfer was from my Montana 650 to my 62S.

Could you put the stock profiles on the wisdom page for folks to download if needed?

The stock profiles are in a Dropbox share. Not sure putting them into a forum is the best way to keep them available but we'll put some thought into it.

K. I was thinking I ought to get them and stash them somewhere in case I need them because I'm always messing around with mine.

thats what I did :)

If you edit the file, it's XML, you can kind of make out the settings.

are you referring to profile as in setup ... a total PITA to keep redoing all the settings again and again for all the beta changes.

downgraded to last stable 3.90 then to 4.02 for a trip to Texas. Just got back .. had problems with main menu holding changes. lost compass button, which disappeared from menu anywhere.

needing a functional GPS ... not a beta in works.... what version o/s do you recommend?

I'm referring to "Profile" as in Montana Profiles. It's possible that you have to redo all the settings on your profiles if you're modifying the Garmin supplied default profiles, but if you create a bunch of new profiles from the Garmin supplied ones, you won't end up having them revert to default when you up or downgrade.

We all need functional gps units, obviously. I am not having any problems with 4.03.
