Then, if you have your waypoint, you can use the "Search Near" function to filter the POI that are near the newly created waypoint. Or, if you know you are going to search to things, just select a map point after selecting "Search Near".

However, I agree, it would be nice to have more functionality directly from the map page.

Recall if you will those days of yesteryear when the Montana Owners Manual enthralled us with visions of Adventures! Hi-Ho Silver!

It looks like we're going to get Adventures sometime this year. The Beta versions of BaseCamp v4 are available now which contain the new Garmin Adventures features (well, at least the beginning of the features). I have not been able to get the Beta to run on my Mac yet - it IS beta software.

Cheers,

Wireless Temperature Sensor!

Garmin quietly introduced a new accessory device (availability: 6-8 weeks) that provides wireless Temperature readings to what looks like many of the newer Garmin GPS's and wrist-ware. No spec's yet but it appears to be about the size of the Garmin chirp RFTag for geocaching.

I have asked the Montana Team to see when they think they will be supporting the tempe but have not heard back from them yet. I'm guessing that it is an ANT+ wireless device so it shouldn't be to hard to implement on the Montana.

Cheers,

The Beta works on my Mac.

I really like the Adventure tool, and its "Play" element. Looks really useful.

Yeah, my Montana still does what all of my previous Garmin's have done. Navigated me down boardwalks thinking it was a road, having me make three left turns instead of a right and my personal favorite, routing me out to the middle of nowhere in search of the nearest gas station, only to find a cardlock.

While I think the Montana is the best of Garmin's worst, I still find Google maps and a smartphone to be a better, simpler and much more affordable navigator. Garmin just doesn't seem to "get it." Can hardly wait for some new blood to enter the arena.

This also got me yesterday. Since the Garmin got me a bit off course. I started looking for fuel. Why the hell is the default distance "as the crow flys" when you are in car/motorcycle routing mode I had to set each gas station as a destination and actually click "go" to figure out how far they "really" were from me

Thankfully the nice man in the pickup had 5 gallons of 85 octane he was nice enough to give me

Technically, the Montana only tells you what the map tells it to. So blame the map, not the Montana.

Or, maybe you just got there a few years early?

Not the Montana, its the map you are using. Any GPS unit is only as good as the map that is loaded. Anyway, that looks like a fun road so I think the Montana knew it was attached to a KTM and pick the most appropriate route
