However, you can have your Map Dashboard set to display one Dashboard when Navigating and another Dashboard when not Navigating.

If one desires to have different data fields on a Dashboard under certain conditions, then the method would be to use a Profile to change them.

Cheers,
In 4.20 I could set up Small Data Fields for both navigating and non navigating, then I could select DIFFERENT data fields to be displayed for one or the other. in 4.50 I can no longer do that. Any changes I make in Non Navigating shows up in Navigating mode and vice versa. I used to do the same thing with my 478 2 different sets of small data fields for nav and non nav.

I just installed v4.20 and you must have been using another method because v4.20 does not have support for multiple Small Data Field Dashboards in a single Profile. I set the Map Dashboard to Custom and put Small Data Fields in Nav and non-Nav. I then set a data field to a different data type when Navigating and then when not Navigating and that data field stayed to whatever was the last data type I put there when I switched between Nav and non-Nav. No two different Small Data Field Dashboards in the same Profile.

Are you certain you weren't playing with different Profiles?

P.S, By the way, I think that would be a nice feature request but not sure it is possible with the current Dashboard support code.

Cheers,

If that was how it was supposed to work, wouldn't then the Data Fields just be named Max Temp and Min Temp?

As it is, they are named 24hr Max and 24hr Min.... So one would reasonably expect they would always read the Maximum and Minimum values over the previous 24hr period, regardless.

No argument - and I believe the data fields are name appropriately. The OP asked how to "reset" the data field which was the solution I offered.

Apparently software version 4.60 is out.

Montana (WebUpdater) software version 4.60 as of September 20, 2012

Change History
Changes made from version 4.50 to 4.60:
Improved map drawing at low zoom levels.
Fixed inability to edit archived tracks.
Fixed ability to use NMEA depth for waypoints and tracks.
Fixed display of geocache coordinates with non-default map datum.
Fixed position display on waypoint page.
Fixed overlapping position text for right to left languages.

Can't try it as I don't have my Montana here.

The Garmin web page says to use "My Dashboard" to install the file.

I did the master reset, and the max/min values are the same as they were before. The MR didn't erase the temperature values that were in there. If I take the battery out of the Tempe, then it all goes back to current temp and starts over with a new max/min. I was hoping it would actually be a 24 hour cycle, but instead it's just the maximum and minimum for as long a the battery is in the tempe.

Any idea why this method rather than Webupdater?

BruceWA, did you do a master reset before you installed 4.60?

Nope, no idea. But I bet WebUpdater would also work.

You are correct. When I did my MR, the data fields were blank when I rebooted. I didn't stay on the field long enough to see that they came back on the next ANT read cycle with the previous 24hr. Min/Max readings. This is not a very handy readout given the current operation.

I started testing v4.60 last night (I don't sleep much) when it popped up on BaseCamp that a new version was available.

I used WebUpdater and it worked just fine.

Cheers,
Do you have any *.gpx files stored on the Montana that reference the Tempe? I am wondering if this information is stored as a GPX file.... Like other ANT info (chirp data, for example).

The temp data is "stored" in the Track Log. . .

And as I showed the other day you will find it in the properties window of the track.

I didn't see any other log file for ANT devices but then I only have the tempē. It does seem logical to use the Track Log for storage of ANT device data since it is easily correlated with position.
