First of all I want to thank you all for the great input on the Montana!

I have the Montana now since about a month and couldn't be happier. No problems here...

I have wired the rugged mount at the moment directly to the battery. I changed my mind now and want to connect it to the spare canbus connection below the handle bar (1200gs).

Can anybody confirm to me that I don't need to put the inline fuse when connected to the canbus?

BMW would like you to believe that you don't need it but I would leave it in the line. Better to be safe than sorry, IMHO.

I could have used the inline fuse to replace an non waterproof one, which is wrapped in monkey tape for good...

Finally I have all the maps and I am ready to install. City Navigator 2013 and Topo 100K.

I am on a Mac.

With the uSD card installed in the Montana and the Montana attached to the Mac I start MapInstall.

The window that comes up says:

The following maps will fit on your Montana 650 (Unit ID 3843880826) + SD Card.

City Navigator North America NT 2013.3
TOPO U.S. 100K

Is this correct to get the maps installed on the uSD card?
I want the maps on the uSD, not on the Montana internal drive.

I don't see any option to install the maps to the uSD ONLY.

MapInstall will, by default, load everything on the uSD card first, before using GPSr internal memory. Nothing prevents you from transferring *.IMG files between them as you wish, once the install in complete.

I tried to figure this out tonight but was not able to make a Shortcut directly to the Fuel Services category. Nearest I could get was to create a shortcut which switches to the Automotive Profile, and activates the Where To application. In the Where To app I had changed the order of the icons so that Fuel Services was second in the list order, so I didn't need to scroll.

The Shortcut was made into a Favorite, accessible through the Status Screen/Favorite Dashboard I get with a single Power Button push.

Not perfect, but it works.
