I've had a Montana 600 for a couple of months now. It's working well- not too much trouble setting it up since I've read/skimmed this entire thread and most of the links that have been posted- Thanks for everyone's efforts.

I ran across this post (#4235, page 283) by TravellingStrom and didn't see any replies, but it's something I've been wondering about as well. Anybody know what the logic behind the order of listing is when you ask the Montana to do a CITY SEARCH?

I just did a similar Montana search sitting here at my computer for the town of Evergreen which is about 7 km from my house. The first Evergreen in my results list is Evergreen, NC (2405 km), the second in my list is Evergreen, CO (7.43 km).

Just more Garmin incompetence and lack of attention to detail... anybody can be a software developer, not everybody can be a good software developer.

Did anyone else get this email from GPS City about the new 600 series? WTF?

Oregon 600 Series Sneak Peek.
The Garmin Oregon has been re-imagined with a bright, dual-orientation multitouch display, dual battery system, and a more robust processor. An 8MP camera with flash and flashlight mode is added to the Oregon 650, making it the best companion for all outdoor adventurers.

It's an Oregon, not a Montana. Smaller and looks like USB power only, which makes it far less interesting to me.

It's the new Oregon. Montana is still better. This one does not even do voice prompts. Still glad I got my Montana...

I'm retarded. Read "Oregon" and translated into "Montana" in my head. Disregard. Nothing to see here, people. Move along.

Careful, too much wine can result in a serious loss of data. Whiskey, on the other hand, can result in re-formatting.

It sounds good until you realize that you have to re-install your OS and all programs.

I noticed when the using my Montana in my truck, when it is running on battery power, it beeps at me when approaching my next turn. When plugged into external power, it gives voice prompts. I loathe voice prompts(they are muted btw). How can I make it just beep at me when it is plugged into external power?

Yea yea, RTFM. I seem to have misplaced it. Yea, that is the excuse I'm going to use, misplaced it

Misplaced the manual?

The original Garmin Montana manual is available directly from the Montana Wiki.

The wiki covers a lot more than the manual however, including the information you are looking for. Maybe. Let us know if setting [Tones Output] to [Internal Only] accomplishes what you desire.

Another option may be to navigate to your \Garmin\Voice\ directory and remove all available voice files from the device

Not to dilute the Montana info too much but I bet there will be a version of the Rugged Mount out for the Oregon 6XX series before long. I can't believe Garmin wouldn't have better than mini-USB power since the device has a rechargeable NiMH battery, a built in flash, flashlight, and Bluetooth.

I created a thread for the new Oregon.
