Question VIRB camera

Somewhat Montana related.....

Is anyone planning on getting the VIRB camera when they come out?

I was planning on upgrading to the newer GoPro until I found out about the VIBR camera. So I'm holding off to see how it and the Montana work together compared to using a smart phone with the GoPro. Especially since the Montana and VIBR both use the same batteries.

If there is already the thread about the Montana and VIRB camera feel free to point me to it.

Jon...

Look for a thread called 'As Contour Exits...'

I plan to get the Elite model.

Thanks for the thread info.....found it, reading it now.

I had a feeling you would go for the Elite version. That would be my choice too.

Back to reading As Contour exits, another player arrives...

Nah, I got 2 Contour Roams. The Virb doesn't offer anything I want that the Roams already do. It'll probably be a long time before I need to replace them.

Another Test of 5.3

Yesterday and today and I did a little ride down to North Bend, OR and back from the Seattle area (785 miles). The Montana and the 5.3 firmware continues to work perfectly for me.

I think I have racked up about 1200 miles on 5.3.
So far no problems and map set to fast.

I just had the "acquiring satellites" error for the first time this weekend on 5.3 set to fast map. I also lost the speed limit field once again.

Speed limit depends on if there is data or not...I wouldn't worry about that.
But loosing the satellite different story.

Where were you?
Was the sky in clear view?

A few times mine would lose satellite when I was close to certain cell towers but it hasn't done that in a love while.
Probably something the cell towers has changed...wasn't the Montana's fault.

I'm well aware of where and when speed limit data is available. on 5.2 I had it on 5.3 I had it after 2 master resets, then it disappeared and hasn't been back.

I'm not overly concerned about the limit's being shown. But knowing that they should be and are not is mildly annoying. The bigger issue is the satellite lock.

# of Points in a track?

I should know this, but I just don't do that much with preloading tracks, etc..
I just downloaded into my Montana some tracks for a ride this weekend.
I noticed that the Saturday track has 5,000+ points. I just haven't kept all these numbers straight. How many points can I have in a track? 500?
When I pulled up the track on the Montana, it just shows a very small portion of the track.
So, if I need to reduce it from 5,000 to 500, I use the filter button on the Basecamp file.. Right?
What is the best way (that will keep me on the track) to filter it?
Hopefully I wont be losing that much (90%) of the track.
I know this is out there (if I search) I just have very little time.. Very sorry, please don't flame me..
Jeff

Routes are 250 (direct) or 50 (guided) and Tracks are 10,000.

Thanks!! I'm sorry to be such a noob.
The track opens fine in basecamp when I open what's on the internal storage in the Montana.
When I open the track in track manager in the Montana, it looks great. (I have selected to have it "show on map".
And now?? When I look at the area with the map.. The entire track shows up.
So,, I guess it's fixed. I didn't do anything, but check the map a second time.
Guess it just hadn't loaded yet.
Thanks again.

Question How do I share "lists"?

Howdy. In Basecamp, my routes are categorized into "lists". This is very convenient when using Basecamp for keeping like routes, waypoints, etc together. Is it possible to share a list in the form of a link?
Thanks.

In Windows, right click the link and choose "Export" to save it to a shareable file. Or on a Mac you can click the list then go to File/Export to do the same.
