Seems like you know Idaho Sam (but actually in this car he was remembering the speedometer that is a bar that increases from left to right with speed.

Sam and I were having coffee enjoying a grey morning on Whidbey Island. A motorcycle was coming by, and Sam asks me "do you know them?", me. "no".

Anyway in they pull to the driveway. Sure enough Sooscreek and his lovely wife stopped to say hello.

We had a great Chat. They were on their way to Horizon Unlimited meeting in Nakusp, BC.

Then Sam and I had a bit of fun in langley and then picked some Blackberries on the way home. Sam "ouch, ouch, ouch"

But they look good.

The good ones are all just a long way out...... Got them.

Should be enough.....

Into a pie they go.

an Hour later......

A bit domestic, but this time of being at home is time to do these things before heading back on the road again in 3 weeks.

Then cooked a celebration dinner

Dinner is served.

And invited the neighbors over to share the pie!

The next day we rode up Whidbey Island to Deception Pass. The north end of the island with a bridge to the mainland, and our route toward the North Cascades Hwy.

Fisherman working the side of the pass....

We were heading out the valley and up to the mountains when my bike lost power and I coasted to a stop along the road.

Realized I had a problem that was not repairable right now on this road. Had phone service, googled a U-haul nearby, and when to get a truck to haul my bike home. Ended my Ride and then I sent IdahoSam on his way east!!

Got home and unloaded my bike.

Pulled my tank and drained the fuel. so that I can replace the fuel pump.

Also found a hole in the fuel line heading out of my fuel pump.

Bummer about the fuel pump. Maybe it is just the hose....
I would replace the hose forst and try that. If it is pulling air it would feel like a failed pump... so long as there was still gas to cool the pump...

That said, I did not stay at a Hilliday inn and may not know what I am talking about.

Got to love that Ethanol fuel. And now they are getting ready to force 15% on us Not sure where they will get the corn since I hear the mid west is dried up like a desert this year.

Is this another by product of Ethanol?!? I have been tracking my fuel economy and with pure gas I can get 50mpg. On 10% Ethanol I get 40-45mpg. On 15% Ethanol I'm only getting 35mpg. So of its now going to eat up the motor from the inside out, where is the value in this junk?

Too bad your ride was cut short, Mark. That pie looked pretty tasty!

Bummer your GS let you down, better Washington than Peru though!

Reminds me I wanted to order some of those Jiffy-Tite connectors to make it easy to remove my tank also. Pretty slick!

New Fuel Pump kit showed up this am.

Had to put new electrical wires on and then install new fuel Pump and filter.

Got it installed and it started right up..... Took it for a ride and it was good

Off for a week, but will get one last ride in the US before heading back to Ecuador early in September!!

Hi Mark. Made it home last night, and I am glad it was just a simple fix.... sorta. Well we figured fuel filter, injector or pump..

To all: I knew Mark was back and he had a short window of opportunity to spend a little time with him, so this turned into my Once a year pavement ride. Some are shocked but I have a Triumph Tiger too (had it long before the 990) did a little work fueled her up and off we go. I didn't take any pictures on the way over just rode. Did 26 all the way to Troutdale where Mark and I met up the next morning.

We chatted reminisced a bit and then off we went. I have never been on these roads much less Washington State. Headed up to Mount St Helens. You have to see what kind of power was released that faithful day....... reduced over 300,000 acres of prime rain forest to moon scape in 3 minutes hard to get your head around that. Mark already put up some pictures on that, so moving on. We dropped downed to Randle to fill up WOW 4.80 a gallon. Rode down to Packwood and turned up some unnamed road to leading north to Ashford (I think) really fun road narrow and much of it tree tunneled. Dumped us out a couple miles from the Entrance to Rainer. Pretty busy this time of year and everyone is very proud of their accommodations. We found a place but the econo-roon she offer was just a bit too small

Hummm......... You got something a bit larger?

So she showed us something a little larger, we settled on it

Next morning it was up to Mt Rainer WOW! I enjoyed this park and in particular the road on the Northeast side leading to Tacoma

As you all know Mark had his trademark jumping for joy shot (which I took) but here's a good one too

I tried the jump for joy also...

But settled on what I do best Road Kill

It was an interesting ride for sure.

I look like I'm posing for a high school prom shot or something....

Mark

We ended up at the aforementioned Museum and for the record I have a 56 Bel Aire just like this one only a bronze color..... OH the Summer of 69

Listen to it or not....

Oh yea there were lots of cars. etc, etc,

I had to laugh because as a military brat I remember actually riding in one of these when we lived in Germany.... Really!

A collector of all types of vehicles.

Mark got excited when he saw the Enfields... He said that's the same bike he rode around India and that he really loved the damn thing really fun easy to ride machines.

I'll get some more shots up a little later.

Nice local trip you and Sam had, great read and pics as usual!
2 questions, where did you get the pump, anything special?
Where is the car museum and do you or Sam have a picture of the Ghia next to the BMW car?
Thanks

I bought an aftermarket fuel pump and filter kit from Beemerboneyard.com $145.00 vs $345 for just the BMW fuel pump. It might have just been the fuel line, but I decided to replace the Pump, Filter, screen and O ring. Since I have so many miles on the bike.

I did not take too many Photos at the LeMay Auto Museum in Tacoma. But Sam might have.....

It was great to see Sam and ride together in our own area. Hope he took a few photos of the North Cascades Hwy (that I missed :(
