The road to Leh via Manali is in shambles, not to mention closed.

You may want to keep alternative destinations in hand

Disaster

Hi Guys...well the ride didn't even get started!!

12 months planning and 9 hours after leaving Australia the whole adventure came to a screaming halt .

All my fault, in preparation for the trip, I'd checked the India Government web-site about Visa requirements and seems I misread about what nationalities could obtain entry visa's upon arrival. Well I now know Australians must have a prearranged visa for entry into India.

So I got as far as Singapore to change flights and while trying to check-in, was asked for my Visa, of course I didn't have it, so they wouldn't let me on the plane

I decided to stay in S'pore the night and go to India High Commission next day and plead ingnorance. So much for that plan.
Got into the interview room with a woman that couldn't crack a smile if her life depended on it.
She just flatly said 'No Visa' - when I pushed and tried offering to pay for an emergency visa, she asked why I wanted to go to India, I said Holidays, and she said they are not interested in tourists, only business. The interview was over and so was our Himilaya adventure ride.

It's very sad and I am very sorry to hear the story. Never come into my mind when you said that the woman told you that India is not intersted in tourist but business instead. Very unacceptable and undiplomatic. But I hope you will plan again next year.

Hi,

Thanks for the thoughts. Yes, I'll try again. I really want to ride the Himalayas and doing it from India is just the easiest way...especially at my age . If I was younger, I'd probably try it a different way and give my money to countries more deserving. Having said that, the people of India are deserving of my tourist dollars but fu#k the government, they're only looking after themselves and it pisses me off that they get anything!

But that's just frustration speaking and I'll try again soon.

Thats sad, well better luck next time. Let me know whenever you plan next may be things can be looked after. As it si this time the weather pattern is crazy here, the rains are random and so are the landslides.
