Thank you! I really haven't done much photography lately, except for 3 weeks ago. I REALLY need to get out more.

We parted ways a few miles down the road, and I continued to head west towards Erwin and hopefully make it to the Wedge in AVL for our weekly "ADV meeting". Well, at least that was the plan....

Missed the road I normally take, but I found Watauga lake and I thought I can figure it out form there...

somehow I got turned around and ended up on the wrong side of the road closure on 321 ... but I didn't realized and shortly afterwards I ended up in Avery County, NC . oops. New plan: cut over Beech Mt. towards Heaton near Banner Elk.

the sun is getting very low at this point

it was just getting dark when I reached 19E - finally I knew, I'll make it home w/o getting lost again

could be a future NC tag

got home around 7:30, 10 hours after I left

Looks like a great scouting ride Cuttle. Can't wait til May. As for Todd's new ride, well I'm looking real close at the 2012 Zarang lineup here in Afghanistan. See you soon!

Cuttle,

I didn't know you'd be "scouting" so close to where I live & ride. Laurel Springs is about an hour North-ish from me.

I was out riding yesterday too, just too nice not to. Anyway, I discovered some mountain top trails that I guess you call "single track" which are pretty long & rough. A lot of it was really rocky and I shouldn't have been there alone. As I was trying to work(navigate) my way down I found some fresh logging roads to follow. A long portion of the road was also a stream, for at least 1/4 of a mile. I never saw any signs posted or roads chained/gated. Most of it was really slow riding, and some of it I wasn't sure I could ride back up the hills I'd come down. I don't have a lot of off road experience, but it would be handy to have an ATV in some sections where I wondered if I could go back up the trail I'd come down. I might take my Rancher over there next time. It will go up hills that a bike never would, plus it can carry beer & gas!

I don't know if it's appropriate for the RDV ride, but I'd be happy to show it to you if you're nearby again. I live on Rush Branch Rd and the trails are close to Locust Gap Rd, if you want to GoogleMap the area. It's between Watauga Lake, Mtn City, and Boone.

Btw, Hwy 321 isn't really closed. A bridge is out, but there's a 1/4 little detour around it. I guess the Hwy dept doesn't want a lot of traffic going through.

Oh, you mentioned Beech Mtn. I know a bit of gravel & some off roading there too. I can almost see the slopes from my house.

Hi Glenn,

I'd love to come up and explore a bit (regardless of RDV route or not) but I guess I have to work on my neglected bike first. How about end of March/April?

I didn't buy those for looks. I had a feeling they would come in handy.
