not many pics from today (I don't like to make others wait while I am taking pics) - but I think I got the "money shot" anyway

Hill climb on Hurricane

what goes up

must come down

no name needed

took a wrong turn at some point and ended up on Snowbird by mistake

Met HalcyonDaze on the way home in Hot Springs - after I failed to stop for him at Max Patch... sorry.

And thanks guys for picking up my bike (twice) for me - as I said, riding wasn't a problem, but stopping....

That's pretty much it.

It was great to finally get to meet some area riders. Sorry I can't remember everybody's name and handle, but I'm sure we'll run into each other plenty more times!

This all looks like a great time to me..
I met some of you at the Wedge a couple of weeks ago. I was riding a Ducati Multistrada then. After many years, this Friday I'll be back on a dual sport! I do remember talking with Alan on that BMW and thinking "man, this guy really rides this thing"..

I can hardly wait to get off the beaten path, get some scratches and good and sore. I can't make it this to the Wedge this week but I'll be there the 28th. I'm hoping that I'll get an invite to ride with your gang.

Seems all of you have knobby tires which is a little intimidating but I figure what the heck, I've busted my butt before.

Years ago I found that after you turn 40 and you hit the ground, you make a loud UUUUGGGG sound..

See ya's at the Wedge... Dan..

Hi Dan - Congrats on the "new ride"! Definitely come to the Wedge - the best place to get a ride organized

West by God

had the change to get away for a few days visiting Perrybwell in WV , I had a great route planned and almost managed to stick to it, well almost:

first alterations due to a standing train, I changed my route and got "lost"

and since I was of my planned route anyway I decided to add a few more twisties instead of gravel (sorry no pics form 421 - way to much fun to stop)

near Damascus

Hungry Mother State Park

Hwy 16 towards Tazwell (just as much fun as Hungry Mother)

Hwy 16 in VA was a lot of fun - in WV not so much: to many trucks, and the town of Welch should be renamed Belch (I hope I don't offend anybody).

still managed to find some fine spots/roads on my way:

New River Bridge - almost blew me off the bike

300 miles and 8 hours later I met up with Perry in Hico, WV - he guided me back through a maze of one-lane roads and gravel to the rafting camp at the Gauley he's the host at. Just in time, it started to rain... a lot.

my private camp host

later that night, a work in progress

the next morning with more daylight - I didn't bother with a tent

tbc

Lower Gauley at the camp

just a few miles into the ride - did I say it rained?

stupid mud puddle

old raft camp

old railroad tracks

obligatory road food pic

perry added some road flair to my bike

New River Bridge - again (sorry)

tried to catch Perry coasting - he won

day 2 - continued

New River

back into the woods

somehow the gravel road turned into rock/mud, than single track and in the end no-track

after a short stroll in the woods we were rewarded with this:

by this time we were soaked and called it a day (very slippery in the woods)

WV boot drier

had the "pick of the litter" for this night (the camp is empty during the week)

the day ended with a few more brewskies and a perfectly cooked dinner - I got spoiled
