Personally,,, I think that drowning pool was the luck of the draw and how you attacked it.

So screaming "I will not be taken prisoner" and turning the throttle as far as it would go was the right thing to do then?

If that worked for ya, then it was the right thing to do.

I was the first one there and walked it twice. There was a rut to the left which was deceiving, you'd have thought it would have been on the right. I picked a line about 4' (a little over a meter for you northern folk) from the beaver dam and just kept a steady throttle. The bike started to sputter near the other side but at that point I was starting to come up out of the water. I think the foam prefilter got soaked , after a minute or so all was good.

Is that an inside joke, or something someone as technologically inept as myself could benefit from?

When we got to the beaver dam and i saw all the bikes on the other side i yelled to Rudy to turn his camera on. I figured all those bikes made it so i was good to go. Rudy said "something something NO something something". I thought, and probably said something to the affect of, well FU then. If you dont want to film that is fine. That was when i yelled I will not be taken prisoner and went at it hard.

It was after I made it through that Rudy pointed out that he was telling me no, as in dont go through, because his Husky, now known as the sump pump, and the big KTM, and one other were still there because they got drowned. Then we held the big KTM up on its tail to both drain the water out and Drill in how i need to trust Rudy. Then another KLr made it and then another big KTM died.

KLRs are very dependable farm tractors and I have mostly learned to trust, and listen to, Rudy.

Mine was the DR650 up on end, it was sucking water all day because it couldn't keep speed through "puddles" because the carb vent hose was way too low. Daan's XL350R was also dead due to water on the far side of the pond. I don't know what Daan had to do but I think he got his going by kicking it over 200 times. I had to drain the airbox, drain the tailpipe, pull the plug and drain the cylinder, and hold the starter button for a minute. I also had to give the DR an oilchange in camp due to water that snuck past the rings and into the case. The poor huskey needed surgery on the trailside :(

I pre-walked that whole pond for 5 minutes and still fucked it up. Someone smarter than us kicked the dam over before riding through, and the wisest just turned around and routed around it. Live and learn.
