Yes, a big difference, especially in the winter.

And I've put on bark busters with wind breakers since these photos were taken.

Hey George, are you getting any riding weather up there?
It was pretty crummy weather here last weekend so I finally got around to shortening those Adventure Akrapovics on the 990SM-R,
and I'm in the middle of building an additional workbench in the shop.

I shortened these by 80mm:

They look much better now, but no pics yet.

Hey Mike, I invested in heated gear and now ride everyday, as long as its not snowing. I ride the KTM on the weekends and I bought a 2012 Vstrom (sold the KLR) to commute with to work everyday and some adventure traveling this year. I will probably be riding the vstrom down for the rally, just need to get it more dirt-worthy, unless I find a good DRZ400 for a decent price before that. I also added a topcase to the KTM, I know it looks ridiculous but I plan on traveling much further with the KTM this summer and just need something lockable, to carry a few days stuff in. I want to be able to ride it down to west virginia and your general area ride for a few days and ride it home...

You're a V-twin addict now! Did you get the large or small Strom?

Yeah, definitely plan on camping out here for a few days this summer.
What did you mount the topcase TO exactly?
Quick release of some sort?
Did you put a SM-T luggage rack on it first?

I bought the smaller vstrom. I am staying lighter this year.i know it's still heavy for dirt but compared to the BMW I came off this is 200 lbs lighter. A s kid plate crash bars knobbies and I will be good to go. I actually had a 2007 vstrom but i got hit on it twice, once by a driving school instrucor in his teaching car lol so decided it was bad luck after the salvage tilt and sold it.
I had bought the SMT rack and was using it with a soft bag which I will keep using local and day trips. I bought the KTM aluminum (trax) top case and required plate from KTM. It is a lockable quick release so I will just put it on for trips and then put the soft bag on that same plate the other times. It's the one listed in all the parts on page 8 or 9 of this thread. I will post a pic when I can, right now it says I cannot post pics?? I sent a pm to find out, why.

The small Strom will be great for the rally.

I think the quick release topcase will work great for you on the 990. You will be able to take a trip, then leave the topcase back at camp while you ride the twisties.

Yeah, I would like to know what the "no pics" thing is all about.
Can you post them a wrong way???

(I wouldn't know because I still don't know how).

I just found out about the pics and it is posted at the top of every thread lol.. I just never saw it.. I used to just upload from the computer but now you must set up an account with smug bug or a site that supports pics and then import them to the site.. It saves them a lot of bandwidth and let the site run much better...I will figure it out when I have more time...I have off tomorrow and Its going to be 50 deg so......... I am going riding.

Yes Smugmug is one, and Photobucket is a free one you can use too.
Somebody showed me how to use Photobucket one time, but when I tried it again later I couldn't remember all the steps. It was really fast too. I know you will be able to figure it out and show me this summer. I've got a ton of motorcycle parts and accessories I want to place on Fleamarket, but I can't post the pics. I've got 'em hanging from the rafters just to get 'em up off the floor!

As I asked over on the smt thread, this is certainly no Gold Wing but has anyone ever done any 2-up at all with this bike.
